"What's V-O-G-U-U Mommy?" My daughter's question puzzled me at first. Then it dawned on me—she's never come across this word before, and why would she, since she doesn't read Vogue! Honestly, I don't typically read Vogue either, but I couldn't resist reading about Victoria's 50th birthday celebrations esp when I saw pictures of her being carried out of the "posh" venue by David. I had no idea she had broken her foot! During my university days in London, Victoria and David Beckham - formerly known as Posh & Becks - were always making headlines, and now Posh Spice is celebrating her 50th birthday in style! Where does time go? But I digress... my daughter's question sparked a deeper thought. She felt comfortable asking because she knew she was in a safe space, free from judgment. I admire the freedom and openness that children have; it's something I wish we could retain more as adults. Creating a psychologically safe environment in the workplace is crucial. It allows everyone to ask questions about unfamiliar topics without fear of judgment. As leaders, it's our responsibility to create and foster this atmosphere. Given the rapid pace at which the world is evolving, with new jargon and concepts emerging daily as a leader how do you ensure your team feels encouraged and safe to ask and discuss new ideas or questions without judgement? One of the ways I do this is to say "I don't know and I will find out" when I don't know the answer to something. Being vulnerable enough to admit you don't have all the answers reinforces the team also doesn't need to know everything and that we will learn and grow together!

My team and I are dedicated to creating a kinder and more peaceful world through the work we do. We strongly believe that our workplaces play a vital role in shaping this vision. Consider this: your employees spend more than 50% of their waking hours in the environment you cultivate. As a leader, you have the power to make a positive impact on their lives. By fostering a healthy and empowering culture, you can enhance the well-being of your team members. This, in turn, extends beyond the workplace. They become better parents, friends, neighbors, and even more engaged members of society. Ultimately, the world they inhabit becomes a kinder, happier, and more peaceful place. At our core, we are on a mission to empower and uplift leaders who embrace this philosophy. We strive to equip them with the tools and skills to create environments that foster kindness, happiness, and peace. Through our work, we aim to contribute to a world where these qualities are not just aspirations, but everyday realities. Join us in our mission to build a brighter future, one leader at a time, and witness the transformative power that kindness and empowerment can have on our world. Together, we can make a difference and create a kinder, happier, and more peaceful planet. ✨🌍

As we zip through the fast lanes of the 21st century, it's always fascinating to take a step back and pay homage to the dedicated Farbwerke Hoechst AG workforce of the past. Today, let's shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the 50s and 60s who embraced their daily grind with unmatched enthusiasm and, yes, their trusty time cards! The workplace of the 50s and 60s wasn't just a place to earn a paycheck; it was a second home. Colleagues were more than just coworkers; they were lifelong friends who celebrated the highs and lows of life together. There was a sense of camaraderie in the routine. From coffee breaks at the local diner to impromptu water cooler chats, these interactions were the heartbeat of the office. They understood the value of connecting face-to-face, long before Zoom and Teams became household names. Punctuality wasn't a choice but a virtue. Meetings started on the dot, deadlines were sacrosanct, and time management was a fine art. The legacy lives on today, as we embrace a more flexible work culture, let's take a moment to appreciate the dedication and discipline of those who rushed to work with their time cards in hand. It lives on in our commitment to our work, even if the attire has evolved and the clock has gone digital. #hoechstag #chemicals #pharmaceuticals #history #throwbackthursday #workethics #timecard #nostalgia #linkedInflashback

Talking about anything other than business in the workplace is hard and scary, but necessary. It’s hard because historically we have abided by the unwritten rule of never discussing race, religion or politics in the office. This worked really well until it didn’t, 2020, the murder of George Floyd. We along with every other company were thrust out of corporate complacency on social justice issues and forced to establish a new consciousness one that included addressing things that were going on outside of our workplace, things that were more than business. Although very uncomfortable at first, we leaned in, we fumbled a lot because there was no playbook, but we kept going, listening, learning, trying, repeat. We stuck with it proving that we have the capacity to demonstrate compassion and grace for our mistakes so that we could recover and begin the cycle of listening, learning and trying again, and again even when it’s hard. And we stretched and grew in so many ways, just look at the ORTHE program and all the great work that continues in addressing healthcare disparities, and how much muscle we’ve developed to sit through discomfort and difficult conversations. We may not understand, or even agree on the issue at hand, but we can agree that we don’t want to see our friends, family and colleagues suffer. What’s going on in the Middle East is unbelievably tragic, and affecting many, many people, those in the region and those of us here with loved ones there. Once again we’re being called upon to go beyond just “business”. Similarly as in 2020, there is no playbook, our company nor do we as individuals have a solution, nor answers or even an understanding of how things ought to be. But we’re going to have to go through this like we did in 2020 giving ourselves grace and permission to fumble at times through this crisis with the understanding that we’re all simply humans who want to support each other in peace and in love. There is always welcoming spaces to do good even when it’s not perfect, and doing good is what we at JNJ always aim to do. #mycompany #itshard #gothroughnotaround #peace #love #AfricanAmwricanJew

Embrace Your Light 🎇: A Message of Support and Empowerment Recently, I was deeply inspired during a conversation with a group of peers. Among them, dedicated husbands and fathers shared heartfelt actions they took to appreciate and support their wives - from tidying up the house after a long weekend with the kids to booking a thoughtful spa day following a strenuous work trip. However, it was disheartening to hear that instead of commendation, they received criticism from others in their circle, leading them to request their wives not to share these gestures publicly. This scenario highlights a troubling but all too common dynamic, not just in personal relationships, but also in our professional lives. It's a stark reminder that some may attempt to dim our light, not because our actions are unworthy, but because they feel insecure about their contributions or lack thereof. But here's the truth we must all embrace: Your light is not responsible for illuminating the insecurities of others. When you choose to act with kindness, generosity, and innovation, you're setting a standard, not just for yourself, but for those around you. It's about creating a ripple effect of positivity and empowerment that can transform environments, be it at home or in the workplace. So, to all the incredible individuals out there making a difference in big ways and small, remember: your efforts are valid, valued, and truly inspirational. Do not let the fear or insecurity of others deter you from being the beacon of support and creativity you naturally are. Instead, seek out and surround yourself with those who not only appreciate your light but are willing to shine alongside you. Let's challenge ourselves to not only recognize but celebrate acts of kindness, support, and innovation. Share your stories of positivity, your moments of support, and your innovative solutions. Together, we can build a community that uplifts and inspires, one where everyone feels empowered to shine their brightest light. #ShineBright #SupportNotCriticism #Empowerment #PositiveChange Remember, it's about building each other up, not tearing down. Let's be the change that we wish to see in the world. Let your light shine, and never dim it for anyone. 💫 ----------------- If this resonates with you, like and/or follow me.

Sharing some pictures of my wonderful colleagues with you today! So happy to work with this diverse and gifted team - I learn more from them every day. 🌟 Celebrating Our Superpowers: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Day! 🌟 Today, we unite and celebrate #Diversity, #Equity and #Inclusion at Dentsply Sirona! Here at Dentsply Sirona, we cherish our differences as our greatest strengths. Like a league of superheroes, each of us possesses unique talents and perspectives that enrich our collective journey. Our diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and life experiences inspire creativity and innovation, binding us together as a unified force. Within this vibrant tapestry of diversity lies our power and resilience —a truth substantiated by evidence. Studies by McKinsey & Company show that companies with gender-diverse teams are 15% more likely to excel, while those embracing ethnic diversity are 35% more inclined to achieve the same. Our greatest strength lies in our ability to innovate. According to The Boston Consulting Group, diverse teams yield a remarkable 19% increase in revenue from pioneering products and services. Innovation thrives when every voice is not only heard but valued. It's like assembling a legion of superheroes, each with unique abilities—when united, we're unstoppable! DEI is a pursuit of improvement, a continuous process that will lead organizations and societies to be better and better. It requires organizations to make choices and demonstrate commitment, but ultimately it starts with and is the result of our individual behaviors.
The pursuit of “better” is foundational to our culture at Lilly. When our founder passed the business to his son more than a century ago, he famously told him to “take what you find here and make it better and better.” That spirit that drives innovation—the pursuit of better medicines for people suffering from illness and disease. Diversity, equity and inclusion are also significant drivers of innovation, particularly in a global business like ours that serves people in nearly every corner of the earth. An intentional focus on DEI enables us to attract the best talent across dimensions of difference, and helps us to better deliver for patients with different backgrounds, ethnicities and experiences around the world. There’s plenty of evidence that sameness drives sameness, and DEI drives innovation. And we’re fundamentally about innovation. Like the quest for better medicines, DEI is a pursuit of improvement. Recently, thousands of Lilly employees joined together for our second annual LevelUp DEI conference, asking ourselves how we can be better—more intentional, more inclusive. Our keynote speaker was actor and producer Marlee Matlin, who challenged us to cultivate an inclusive workplace that brings everyone along on the journey. Her story and experiences as an actor who is deaf in Hollywood are not just inspiring—they’re a call to action to continue removing barriers that keep many people out of the conversation. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made at Lilly, but like the pursuit of innovation, we’ll keep working to be better and better. #WeAreLilly
