Idea/Pre-seed stage FinTech founders. This is for you... If you're at the start of your journey to becoming authorised by a regulatory body, multiply your estimated time to authorisation by 10x and make sure you have the resources to keep you 100% focused on the business until then because it will consume all of your time. We thought it would take us 3 months to get authorised. Here we are, 2 law firms, € six figures (and we did this on a shoestring budget compared to what it would usually cost!), many grey hairs and 18 months later. And still not officially authorised yet! Financial regulation is no joke. Without money to throw at lawyers it's an overwhelming, highly-complicated and very stressful process. That said, it's also highly rewarding and incredibly educational. If you'd like to chat about it, I'd love to offer support wherever I can because it can be a lonely and isolating process even with the support of a co-founder (as if startups weren't hard enough already 😩). Scaling of FinTech startups can be viewed as both an opportunity and a challenge in these times of economic uncertainty. In view of the strong competition in this sector, managing customer expectations and evaluating banks appetite for collaboration, all drives the reason why a strategy for scaling FinTechs is essential. Even if I know that the person to whom I am talking on the phone won't start any business in his/her life, I still prefer to guide them and give answers to their questions if they approach me. I do judge people but I know judging anyone is wrong. That's enough reason to share whatever knowledge you have with them. Discussed Fintech Startup ecosystem with a Senior Banker today for 32 long minutes on Saturday afternoon. I remember a few months ago he gave his 30 minutes to me to provide me details on how banks decide the Creditworthiness of Startups and SMEs. Knowledge sharing is an easier way to learn something. When you know the basics of some topics, you can deep dive into it later by taking help of YouTube Videos and Google Search. I learned about 26 dimensions this morning from 4:00 a.m to 6:00 a.m. because I was in the mood to learn Physics today.
