SCDOT has been working to replace the bridge on US 17A/21 over the railroad track at the Beaufort and Hampton county line. Construction has begun and is on track to be complete by this fall. Earlier this week, crews worked to put in place 5 beams over the railroad. Each beam weighs 60 tons and is 122 feet long.

My lanta that's a large beam!! Some of the wind/solar projects I've managed are 140+ but 122 of concrete is a different monster! I'd love to know the preparation involved in the transportation of these bad boys!

Each beam was 180 feet. And 223,000 pounds. Also going over railroad tracks
