I’m all for change & progress but some things just need to be left “as is”. Small town rural areas shouldn’t be the golden ticket for transportation solutions. For example, prepping a scenic and historic road for future heavy weights (or even just prepping it for more traffic) shows the lack of preservation, disfavor of community and inadequate hauling channels already in place. Hadleyparkerstudy.com is a proposed plan that would demolish the remaining early settlers of Will County’s existence as well as cut directly through homes and farms. I understand we need road improvements, but let’s tone it down a bit and get back to the basics. Chesapeake Highway at Bristol

Winslow Queensland is set to commence work on the Samford Road safety improvements project, which aims to reduce the rate and severity of crashes along the 1.5km section of road. The $13.98 million project, northwest of Brisbane, is funded by the Queensland Government's Targeted Road Safety Program, which aims to address known and potential crash locations using high-benefit, cost-effective safety treatments. This section of Samford Road was identified by Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for safety improvements due to its high crash rate, which includes over 10 serious injury crashes and one fatality in the last five years of available crash data. Works will include road resurfacing for a safer, smoother surface, installing additional guardrail for greater protection from roadside hazard, shoulder widening and wide centre line treatment to separate through-traffic and reduce the potential for head-on and loss-of-control crashes. Drainage improvements will be made as well as raised median and traffic islands, new lighting, pavement rehabilitation and green infrastructure to improve fauna safety. You have until Friday to comment on the planning application for reactivation of Govan No. 1 dry dock as a working dry dock for ship repair and maintenance. If the dry dock proposal goes ahead then it would effectively render it impossible for a housing development to also be approved on the graving dock site. That's why we're supporting the dry dock proposal. Housing and a working dock side-by-side would lead to noise complaints from residents and would likely put off potential buyers. That's without even touching on the ability to insure new residential properties built on a flood plain (which in any case is contrary to national planning policy). The case for housing on Govan Graving Docks has never been weaker. It's time to draw a line under it.

Even with an influx of traffic, incidents on Government Street have dropped significantly. This data comes from a recently released Substack post from BRAC Manager of Economic and Policy Research Jake Polanksy. This post highlights how the completion of roads and more approval on development projects could improve key corridors in the Capital Region. With emerging data like this, another success story about Baton Rouge is being created right before us. As road improvements and development projects continue to keep our region on the rise, residents can expect corridors like Government Street to be more attractive and have accessibility to more forms of transportation like walking, biking, and public transit. Which decade (or century) is our broke government likely to deliver this - if at all. Surely an active transport “expressway” should be the priority. A ferry may also be a much quicker solution - linked to cycleways and shuttles.

Utah is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, and American Fork is one of the fastest-growing cities in Utah. While that might sound exciting to some, it poses serious challenges for managing the city's infrastructure. But American Fork has put themselves in a position to handle the growth. How? When I started working with the City of American Fork in 2012, Cities were utilizing pavement preservation techniques, but a lot of the maintenance was reactive in nature. American Fork wanted to take a proactive approach, so they decided to try HA5 High Density Mineral Bond. HA5 is designed to keep good roads in good shape, which extends the life of the road and reduces the cost of ownership. This allows public works departments to do more with their budgets. By extending the life of the road, the yearly cost of owning that road decreases. Which means you can use that money on other projects you wouldn't have been able to get to otherwise.
