We’re thrilled to be part of the grand opening of the new dining hall at Barnabas Foundation Inc (Camp Barnabas, Barnabas Prep). The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together campers, donors and volunteers to celebrate this special occasion. This new dining hall represents a significant milestone in Camp Barnabas' mission to provide a transformative camp experience for individuals with disabilities and chronic illnesses. Designed for accessibility and comfort, the new dining hall serves about 700 campers, volunteers and staff each meal. In addition to completing various service projects at Camp Barnabas, Schreiber is proud to be a major donor for the new dining hall. #WeAreSchreiber #DoingGoodThroughFood

Addi Road Food Pantry Marrickville is open again. It’s a warm, drizzly day in Sydney, one of those slow-down-even-if-you-want-to-go-fast days. Reflective time to take in the fact one year has passed and a new one is really here to stay a while. What might that mean? Change is gonna come? Or business as usual, last year’s struggles and issues on the repeat button? It will take more than neat buzzwords like ‘resilience’ to get through. It will take substantial community support, engagement that grounds people in a few certainties, and reminders they are not alone in the struggle. Customers take shelter on rows of plastic seats beneath a narrow verandah outside the Addi Road Food Pantry; more are standing on the road accepting the drizzle; others gather beneath a big tree immediately opposite the main entrance that children like to climb. You get that funny feeling of solidarity and loneliness, of need and play as everyone comes together, less of a shopping venture than something basic and shared, a way to stay human and connected. In all, there are maybe thirty or so people inside the Food Pantry. Almost forty outside, waiting, chatting to one another or enjoying their own quiet. Steady as she goes. For $5 you can usually score about $20 worth of groceries, choosing from the shelves, fridges and freezers. Once you’ve spent your $5 you also qualify for free bread and a selection of free fruit and vegetables. The operating structure means that people get whatever they like along with a guarantee of nutritional extras and staples like bread. Our Addi Road volunteers keep the place humming. Our donors supply us with food, much of it rescued by us to prevent it from going into landfill and turning into greenhouse gases. Most of the people who shop at our pantry take some pride in helping us to do the right thing for the environment.... + READ the full story on our opening day for Addi Road Food Pantry Marrickville on the link below. #addiroad #foodjustice #marrickville #foodpantry #rescuedfood #environment #donors #newyear #sydney2024 #community #wellbeing #mentalhealth #connection #volunteers #housingcrisis #rents #inequality https://lnkd.in/gZABiVtW

PLEASE #POLICYMAKERS #DEVELOPMENTSECTOR #FUNDRAISING READ UNTIL THE END SHARE WITH YOUR NETWORK People are at the heart of everything we do. If we cannot run indoor, seated meals we will be unable to deliver our community services that help people address their complex needs. If we are forced to move our meal service to a different location, we might risk denying our neighbours in Davenport West access to good quality, nutritious food. We are still unsure about the impact this work may have on our ability to take deliveries of food for the food bank, and we are running out of time. We strongly believe there is a design solution that will work for both The Stop, our community members, and TCHC, but we have not yet been able to have a meaningful discussion with TCHC that balances those needs appropriately. We, the undersigned, are highly concerned about this and the impact it might have on food security in our West Toronto community .... We have a story in the latest issue of Neighbourhood Media detailing all the work we do via Addison Road Food Pantry Camperdown, our low-cost grocery store which makes use of rescued, donated and purchased food to support the local community and its needs. The story (link below) shows how we help feed people from Mission Australia's Common Ground housing project and the nearby Johanna O’Dea Court, a multi-storey NSW Family and Community Services apartment block. It also explains how we serve people living on a tight budget in Camperdown and Glebe, as well as people who come to the pantry from right across the City of Sydney LGA. Most of all, the story is a celebration of our monthly Addi Road 'Let's Get Cooking' sessions (AKA "the Cook-Up"), which offers 260 free hot meals for Mission Australia and Joanna O'Dea residents, as well as those shopping at our Addi Road Food Pantry Camperdown. These sessions involve a monthly cooking demo inside the Common Ground building. Food literacy is the ultimate goal behind Addi Road's Let's Get Cooking program. As well as simply providing a free hot meal (and dessert) each month, we look at helping people to shop AND cook with often very limited funds. Each month there are easy recipes on offer (and ready to be tasted) along extra tips for stocking people's kitchen cupboards; a list of essentials to facilitate simple, inexpensive and nutritious recipes that will match whatever Addi Road Food Pantry might have in stock. It's about building an integrated food ecology for people battling. With a few extra special ingredients over a shared meal as the community comes together: camaraderie and connection. + #Addiroad #cityofsydney #foodrelief #foodjustice #housing #inequality #Camperdown #Glebe #MissionAustralia #homeless #battling #costofliving #poverty #resilience #mentalhealth #wellbeing #nutrition #diet #charity #community #freemeals #cookingworkshop #volunteers #caring #education #connection #letsgetcooking #neighbourhoodmedia https://lnkd.in/gs7vVEvM

Important Update for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) This week only, the Cloudland Elementary School site will distribute meals on Friday, 07/05, instead of Thursday, to accommodate the July 4th holiday. Additionally, please note a policy update: Now, only parents or guardians need to be present to pick up meals. This change does not extend to other family members outside of designated parents/guardians. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! #SummerFoodService #FTHRA #CommunitySupport #HolidaySchedule #ImportantUpdate

🥖 Fresh from the oven! 🍞 In the heart of Fredericton, something wholesome is rising, and it's not just sourdough! Greener Village is cooking up a heartwarming program where folks can learn to bake bread while making a difference in their community. 💡 Here's why this kneads your attention: - Baking is more than a skill—it's an art form that brings people together and now, it gives back too. - This blend of culinary teaching and community service is a novel approach to fostering social bonds and nourishing both bodies and souls. - We're witnessing the mixture of tradition and charity work to create a community-focused recipe for positive change. 👨🍳 If this initiative proves successful, I predict it could rise to the occasion and become a model for community engagement far beyond Fredericton: - Encouraging self-sufficiency while addressing food security. - Inspiring similar programs elsewhere, baking a worldwide batch of generosity. 💭 Let's reflect on what this could mean – a movement stirred together with the yeast of good will and the flour of community support. Imagine that waft of freshly-baked bread bringing communities together, loaf by loaf. 📈 This rolls out vast potential for both personal and communal growth. And isn't that just the kind of news we could all use a slice of these days? #CommunitySpirit #BakingADifference #GreenerVillage #FrederictonFinds #CulinaryCommunity #BreadForChange 💼 Fancy a chat about how simple ideas can create impactful waves in the community? What can a ‘dirty water’ NYC street hotdog teach fundraisers (and us all) about saying thank you? Turns out quite a bit. If that hotdog was served in the Three Michelin starred, 11 Madison Avenue to four foodies as a means of pulling their leg and giving them an unforgettable dining experience. The story is best told by the owner, Will Guidara as he pursued his quest to offer the best hospitality in the world and is done so beautifully with Simon Sinek here: https://lnkd.in/ed7hkBbA But three things I took away: 1. To do something special you have to be really present: There is no point googling good thank yous for fundraisers. You’ll get generic responses and ideas that worked for someone else’s donors. To know what works for yours you need to talk to them openly and really really listen. In amongst it will be a little gem of something you can do for them one day, big or small. 2. You need to ensure everyone has the autonomy to act: Whether it is budgets, time allocated or the management buy-in, doing thank yous uniquely require people to be able to go beyond the normal. In his restaurant they all had autonomy to do what was needed and even had a dedicated ‘dream weaver’ staff member to facilitate ideas as needed. If you want fundraisers to do thank yous well give them the resources to do it. 3. At the end of the day, it’s just food: It should be unthinkable to serve a street hotdog in a three star restaurant but at the end of the day, the owner knew it was just food. What mattered more was that his guests had an unforgettable dining experience. So as we go about our thank yous - and business in general - we should remember that people give to people and they are giving to have an impact. It really shouldn’t matter if thank yous are on brand, neatly stamped with logos and have the sign off of seven people in Comms. If they make people feel valued they’ve done their job. 🌭
