This is an exciting day for South Carolina — SC Nexus has been a tremendous collaborative effort between our state’s world-renowned higher education institutions, technical colleges, numerous state agencies, the Savannah River National Laboratory, economic development alliances, community organizations, non-profits and private companies, including electric utilities. To be federally recognized as one of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s 31 new Tech Hubs validates both the work already happening here, as well as our state leadership’s strategic, long-term planning to align South Carolina for generational economic development success and energy independence.
The Tech Hubs designation has limitless implications for our state. SC Nexus is now eligible to apply for Phase II funding, which would exponentially accelerate the existing advanced energy initiatives underway. Subsequently, by pouring into this sector, South Carolina is poised to train and retain industry specialists in cutting-edge technologies – adding to our rosters of renowned talent and good paying jobs.
Notably, this also catapults the Palmetto State into the global arena of advanced energy research and development. While international businesses have looked to us for FDI and trade for decades, this designation will help expand our global relationships and broaden the definition of what it means to be successful in South Carolina.
The future is bright in South Carolina, and today’s #TechHubs designation announcement ensures that SC Nexus will play a critical role in our continued success.
