If your software package involves VP8 video encoding, it's likely vulnerable to attack. Like a critical zero-day Google disclosed on September 11, the new exploited vulnerability doesn’t affect just Chrome. Already, Mozilla has said that its Firefox browser is vulnerable to the same bug, which is tracked as CVE-2023-5217. And just like CVE-2023-4863 from 17 days ago, the new one resides in a widely used code library for processing media files, specifically those in the VP8 format.

This week we celebrate a milestone that changed the way we surf the web. Can you guess what it is? It's been 15 incredible years since Google dropped the first stable version of our beloved Chrome browser in December 2008. Fast forward to today, and Chrome has become THE web browser, ruling the digital kingdom with grace and speed. With its sleek design, lightning-fast performance, and a universe of extensions, Chrome has made our online adventures smoother than ever. Remember the days of clunky browsers and endless buffering? Thankfully, they’re a distant memory, thanks to Chrome. Now we can zip through web pages, stream our favorite shows without a hiccup, and browse the internet without a second thought. But it's not all about speed; Chrome has brought innovation galore. Tabbed browsing? Check! Incognito mode for those secret missions? Double check! A plethora of extensions and apps that personalize our browsing experience? Got that too! Chrome has been a trusty sidekick on our digital journeys, from late-night research sessions to binge-watching cat videos. It's been there for our online shopping sprees, our virtual hangouts, and even when we needed a quick translation of 'where's the nearest pizza place?' So, happy birthday Google Chrome – our wingman on the web. #GoogleChrome #15YearsOfChrome #HappyBirthday >>>>>>>> Read our latest blog here 👉 https://wactel.com/blog FOLLOW US & SHARE Help Desk: 843-796-2550 | 24/7 IT Support #itsupport #itservice #managedit #informationtechnology #cybersecurity #southcarolina #southcarolinabusiness #wactel

So... so... once upon a time in a land far far away.... but lets say hypothetically it was in Austin, and actually it happened within the last few years... ;) Once upon that time I had gotten a new work laptop and kept running into problems with my browser because... reasons... you know when enterprise level restrictions and settings don't actually play well with other enterprise level software restrictions and settings (heh... maybe these things should be tested together at some point - lol - <insert joke about integration testing>). Like when your browser is readily confused by your vpn, or won't let you set your default browser correctly and so is perpetually launching that pesky Apple-related one... anyhow... Once upon a time I got deep into investigating the Chrome problems in hopes of salvaging my favorite dev setup on the new computer when I realized... "oh yeah... chromium." It solved all the problems. Or rather trying out a few new browsers that already had all the tools I needed solved all the problems. Today is one of those days where Chrome won't even connect to google... Normally, I would think it is a vpn issue, but all my not-chrome chromium browsers work just fine. Surely, there is a super collider somewhere, perhaps deep under one of the google campuses that has created a micro-blackhole and is spitting out irony quarks (is it a thing? No?! irony quarks must be a thing...) And meanwhile my favorite chromium browser keeps trying to get me to use Bing... that just seems wrong somehow. Like... "oh you mistyped an address here... perhaps you should check that out on BING..." I mean at least I'm not embarrassed to say "I googled that..." Just sayin... the words "I binged that..." are never coming out of my mouth. 😝 So in order to avoid having Safari be my default browser on account of the odd enterprise settings in chrome. And to not have to deal with the random unexplained network problems thanks to enterprise level settings in chrome... I use chromium browsers that bing at me sometimes... (and 'no, it's not edge' - I wasn't THAT desperate 😇). Irony particles are streaming this way, y'all. All the way to Texas... 😅
