🇪🇺 🇧🇪 « We must keep moving forward, hope for the best and be prepared for the worst », these were the words with which European Commissioner for Crisis Management, in charge of European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid - Janez Lenarčič - concluded the 8th edition of the European Civil Protection Forum #ECPF24 held on June 4 and 5 in Brussels. Together with Pauline Gareau, we represented SERB Pharmaceuticals at this event that brings the whole civil protection family together on the theme of « Shaping a disaster-resilient Union ». ⛑️ Two days of sharing and exchange, which included a look back over the 5 years of the #rescEU program, the European reserve of capacities for disaster response, set up under the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2019. rescEU has thus become a key element of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), enabling it to deal with High-Impact Low-Probability (HILP) emergencies such as #CBRN incidents. As Maciej Popowski (European Commission - ECHO) reminds us, « #preparedness is more important than ever, and now is the time to act ». Even resources of last resort need to be funded, and as Raed Arafat pointed out, « a vision without funding is just a hallucination ». The future of rescEU therefore depends to a large extent on a sustainable and predictable budget. 🏭 It is this same predictability and enhanced dialogue with decision-makers that companies supplying the rescue equipment and medical supplies requested by rescEU need, without which it will be difficult to maintain optimum production capacities for often niche products. 🗳️ At a time when we, Europeans, are being called upon to renew our representatives in Parliament, let's not lose sight of the major role played by the European Union in our common #security, and let's make sure we have the means to ensure our #resilience over the long term!
