#Voice of a Black fashion creative Having a voice doesn't necessarily mean being a politician or public speaker. Your art form is a voice, whether you're an artist, a writer, someone who loves fashion, a musician, and the list goes on. A creative voice can take on so many forms. Here's how i discovered my creative voice👇 1. Find your #passion to know your voice: i didnt just wake up one day and suddenly i have a passion. It took growth and self discovery to figure it out. When i was still at college other students would compliment the way i dress, mix threads. E.g i would #diy a basic button down shirt into a 1 arm top or skirt. Fast forward the story i realised i wore clothing pieces differently from everone else hence my love for styling became a passion. 2. Take it out of hiding: whenever people asked me where i bought what or how i styled a certain piece of clothing, i would feel compelled to keep it a secret. For someone who is not really good at public speaking #Fashion is a way of expressing myself without really having to talk. But how am i expressing myself if I'm always in the house or not sharing my looks on social media? I #collaborated with a photographer for my birthday shoot of 5 different looks using 1 basic layer. He posted my pictures on his pages and they went viral for a week. Since then I've been sharing my looks and the engagement has been amazingly great #tip sharing your work opens up your voice! 3. Have something to offer: which brings me to why i decided to implement a Voice of Fashion Series. "The one thing you have about you that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can." ~UNKNOWN In a clustered wardrobe i simplify, generate looks and organize clothes effortlessly. I got my first big client because of the color of my dress. I'm serious Back in the day, when I wanted to become a stylist, I was told network network network. So, outside of sending a million emails a day, I attended parties hoping to meet more people from the fashion industry. Every time I chose to wear black to: - blend in - because I am an introvert - to stay safe I was standing in a corner of the room, hoping someone would say hi. No one did! So the next time I attended an event, I wore a bright blue dress! It was one of my favorite pieces in my closet. I immediately heard: " omg, I love your dress; where did you get it?" "What an amazing color. It looks great on you." That night, I met so many amazing women. One of them became my first client! I didn't have to say anything; my clothes did it for me.
