Proper hand hygiene is crucial in preventing the spread of infectious diseases, especially during cough and cold season. It is recommended to wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, making sure to lather all areas, including the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. If soap and water are not readily available, using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol content can be an effective alternative. Additionally, it is important to avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth, as these are entry points for germs. Regularly disinfecting frequently-touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, light switches, and cell phones, can also help reduce the risk of spreading germs. By practicing good hand hygiene and taking these preventive measures, we can all contribute to a healthier and safer environment.
