Today is Australia Day, but it's not a celebration for all. I'm not here to judge what Australia Day means to others or how they choose to spend today, but if you're not sure what all the fuss is about, this is a helpful article that could help you understand the perspectives of many First Nations people. If you're not sure how you could spend your day, there's some practical ideas in there too. Hopefully one day soon we can have a day we can all celebrate together. #YourOTTutor

#citizenscience #organisation suffering #active #membership #decline DISSOLUTION OF THE BUTTERFLY & OTHER INVERTEBRATES CLUB Inc. (BOIC) It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of the news concerning the Butterfly & Other Invertebrates Club Inc. Over the last 12 months the Management Committee has been extensively canvassing our membership base for interest in members to take on the role of club secretary. You may recall in the last issue of Metamorphosis Australia in December I reiterated this call as the news came that the other three positions in the Management Committee would also be vacant leading into 2024. Thus, these four positions are, president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The special resolution is as follows: Following the failure of numerous requests for the filling of key BOIC positions namely Secretary 2023 and President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer 2024 (President’s Message Metamorphosis Australia December 2023 and Memoranda throughout 2023) it is voted that BOIC dissolve as from 31 March 2024 and subsequently dispose of assets in accordance with the BOIC Constitution and the Queensland Government’s Associations Incorporation Act 1981.

We are immensely proud to launch our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan – the second RAP in our reconciliation journey. Our RAP outlines our continued commitment to developing strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, based on trust and respect. ASHM’s vision for reconciliation is one that sees: 🔸 An Australia that acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as the Traditional Custodians of this land. 🔸 First Nations people have access to healthcare that is culturally safe and meets their needs. 🔸 An inclusive and diverse workforce that is culturally rich with cultural safety and culturally responsive practices at the core of everything we do. 🔸 A healthcare system that is also safe for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners. When We Awake When Australia awakes on Sunday 15th, it will be to a different country. A country of hope and new possibilities, or one diminished by the rejection of a once-in-a-lifetime act of grace from our First Nations peoples. The prevailing view suggests the latter and our national diminishment. If we so awake, I fear especially for those fine young Indigenous Australians in our local community whom I’ve watched enacting the dignity of Uluru. These are not the single and singular, high-profile, political lightning rods with which the mainstream media is so enmeshed. These are our youth and community workers, our teachers, health workers and young professionals, trades people, and others committed to this community. If we awake to an endorsement of the status quo, it will be to the perpetuation of the inequitable outcomes they combat every day. But far worse, it will be to awake to the loss of hope. If we awake to new possibilities, it will be to have recognised and embraced the extensive dialogue that spread across the Indigenous communities of this country over multiple years; the consultative and communal preferenced over the single and singular; the simple elegance and beauty of the Statement understood for its true intent. If we awake to hope, it will be to the recognition of history, and the lived experience of our Indigenous peoples. While that history may have been poorly documented and inadequately taught, to suggest one period can be isolated from all that has gone before is as lamentably farcical as it is wilfully ignorant. Surely, we are a better nation than that. When we awake on October 15, it may signal our maturity as a nation to admit and confront the racially based assumptions on which this country was founded and so move forward. It may on the other hand, be the last such opportunity, certainly in my lifetime. If so, then sadly, Australia must wait for another day when we may finally awake.

This is a bit hypocritical, but what would one expect from the civilised people? Did the British inform the Aboriginal people that there was a land grab on at the time of colonisation????? Did the manifestation of colonialism simply continue the “secretive” land grab????? These so-called angered residents need to read and understand Prime Minister Keating’s 1992 Redfern speech. “Recognition that it was we who did the dispossessing. We took the traditional lands and smashed the traditional way of life. We brought the diseases. The alcohol. We committed the murders. We took the children from their mothers. We practised discrimination and exclusion.” And these so-called angered residents are angry only over the “secretive” land grab, yet they have not suffered any of the other forms of abuse suffered by the indigenous peoples, what have they got to be angry over????? And lets go on step further, read UNDRIP art. 28 “pay for what you have taken or give it back”, what have these so-called angry citizens got to be angry over, they do not want to give it back nor pay for it, lucky these so-called angry people are the civilised ones and not the savages that needed to have all the “good things” of colonisation that PM Keating referred to. Yes the indigenous peoples will be forever and eternally grateful for all the “good things” that were done for “their benefit”. https://lnkd.in/d2m2PhB2 Daily Mail News Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia
