It’s our Marketing Director, Gaurav Ahluwalia’s, two year work anniversary with us at The Electric Car Scheme so we thought we’d ask him how it’s gone so far… 💡 What was it like when you joined the company two years ago? I was the ninth hire into The Electric Car Scheme team. Back then, we were a small team, in a much smaller office than ours currently — but we had huge ambitions and even bigger growth targets! When I joined, our CEO, Thom, was leading all of our marketing efforts, so it was fun to work closely with him and learn all about the business. 🚗 What has your Electric Car Scheme journey been like? Challenging, fun, stressful (at times), but overall, an incredibly positive experience. Having worked in similar Marketing roles at other companies, what I truly love about my journey here is the autonomy and responsibility I am given to drive forward our brand and make us the best salary sacrifice scheme. Working on improving our brand, lead generation efforts, and broader marketing initiatives has been very enjoyable, and I can’t wait to do more. Also, at the end of last year, I was promoted from Head of Growth to Marketing Director, which was great recognition from the business for my efforts. Oh, and I also order our team lunch every Wednesday which is great, but also comes with its challenges. Feeding an entire office of hungry ECS employees who ask all morning where the food is… great fun! 😉 🌏 What does the future at The Electric Car Scheme look like for you? More growth, more passion, more energy! As Tom and Thom love to say, bringing more vibes! Now that we’ve got hundreds of thousands of people signed up to the scheme, our job as a team is to get as many of our existing employees to make the switch to electric. This is what gets me truly excited — enabling people to make the switch and save lots of money! The idea of this year‘s summer vacation was to explore the home country 🇩🇰 of a very good friend I met in Nuremberg. Also, recharging batteries 🔋 and spending quality time with my girlfriend was a top priority. While the first part was accurately planned, the second one was accomplished by doing activities and reading books📚. So I decided to take a book that caught my attention a while ago: „Im Grunde Gut“ (engl.: Humankind). In it Ruther Bregman explains why all people are kind in their nature and how the development of our societies lead to the fact that some people aren‘t kind. While this part is really interesting and highly recommended to read I was enlightened by another part, where the author explains how to create a new society, new organisations and new institutions in which we only believe in the good of people. This approach should result in more self-motivated and happy employees while increasing the overall quality of service ⚙️. I truly belief in his approach. Giving people the opportunity for self-organization will result in better outcomes. Why should we tell colleagues what to do, when they know best themselves? In my opinion, all what managers have to do is to create an environment where each individual can become the best version of itself. While I am at the beginning of my #career and still steps away from being a people manager I try to embrace this approach and related values each and every day. I will start a new role in September at CarOnSale as a Product Manager for CRM and MarTech. My sole purpose there will be to deliver great products to our users and to create a unique, supporting and motivating environment for my product team. I will share my findings 🔎 with my LinkedIn network and also kindly ask for any tips💡to create such an environment. For me everyday is #day1 and I want to learn as much as possible every day.

The Automotive 30% Club are running their fantastic and inspiring #thislittlegirlisme campaign, showcasing all of the fabulous career opportunities that exist in the automotive industry! So here's mine. This year, instead of showing a VERY little version of me (because honestly, I can't actually find a baby photo! :P), I thought I'd share a photo from my graduation at Uni. When I look back, I realise what a key inflection point this is for your career choice - and how little the automotive industry is considered by many as a great option for your career. (Something I've since worked with many universities to try and change!) My first job after graduation wasn't quite for me, as I quickly realised that "suited, booted and frankly, a little bored" everyday, was not going to be a good long term option. :) From there, luckily things got much better. After amazing stints in 3M and Google, I then fell into (by accident), the auto retail tech industry. It was never boring as I grew a Marketing department from scratch, hired awesome people to create a happy, high performing team, worked all around the world - and made some friends for life. After 12 years, it was time for a change. But I'm so lucky to love my new job (still in auto retail) as EMEA Marketing Director at Infomedia. I work with great people on interesting projects, in a flexible and supportive environment. After 12 years, I'd really recommend the automotive industry to anyone leaving Uni and thinking "what should I do now?" - because it's been a great journey and I can't wait to see what the next years will bring! #thislittlegirlisme #automotive30club #automotiveindustry #automotivetech

SO hard to believe I'm about to round the bend on a milestone mark anniversary with Discover Financial Services. Very thankful to have started my journey as a contractor on Brian Meier's team, working on something so unique and incredible - such a learning journey. Had to throw back and dig into the archives to pull this headshot from the first video project I worked on with that team (even tho this picture makes me profoundly uncomfortable) - right alongside my manager turned real life friend Swathi Avadhani Rao. Can't believe it's been 6 years (how.. WUT?!). Reflecting on the journey and all the time that has passed, we can mark it in so many countless ways. The projects we achieve, the goals, the tribulations, the # of teams we've been on, the roles we've had, or promotions. But, in true Discover fashion, what comes top of mind for me is the people. Thankful for all the experiences, challenges, and chances you took on me. Those who have supported me, guided, and profoundly impacted me have made me more than stay. The company I work for was acquired back in November... Having never been through this before my head was filled with so many questions about what my future held in this role. I mean, our team went from 14 to 200 in the matter of days. While typical onboarding involves a leisurely two-week acclimatization period, here we are, diving headfirst into full-time responsibilities alongside our newfound colleagues, grappling with unfamiliar software on our Macs, and juggling an overwhelming amount of emails, messages, and meetings. The chaos was palpable, especially for a neurodivergent like myself. Gone are the days of traditional hierarchies; instead, we've embraced a Team of Teams ethos, where we're granted autonomy and accountability in all of our work. And just like that, we became a remote-first workplace. Fast forward four months... I couldn't be more grateful for how all of this has unfolded. There's not been one single person at GMB that has an ego, that hasn't been available for help no matter when I've needed it. They've answered so many questions, invited us into their work, listened to us, given us room to process, allowed silence so that everyone has space to speak, and have approached every concern, every comment, every question with an open mind. Remote-first work has woven seamlessly into the fabric of my family... and has given us life again. Team of teams has been nothing short of transformative (albeit challenging). But its empowered me to step into leadership and given me to confidence to make decisions on my own which has given me room to do my best work. I know this is a very unusual experience for an acquisition and I truly count myself lucky everyday to have the support and care that I do at work. What was once a great job has now become something truly special, thanks to the remarkable individuals at GMB and my amazing teammates at Up&Up, a GMB Brand. Their warm embrace has turned what could have been a daunting acquisition into a shared journey of innovation and growth. I am so grateful. Celebrating my first year work anniversary of my first job at Reizend. It's been an Incredible rollercoaster ride filled with joy, sadness, frustration, excitement, growth and accomplishment. Here are 3 lessons I have learnt : 1.If you approach the dead end of a road, it doesn't mean there's no path to reach the destination. You just have to go back and traverse a different path and you will find the destination. 2.When faced with a tedious task, the brain assumes it has to spend a lot of energy to complete the task, so to save energy it'll order you to do an easier task i.e procrastinate. So to avoid procrastination, chunk down to smaller tasks and focus on completing one chunk at once. You can move the mountain. 3.I remember the awe I felt when I first sighted the thousands of lines of code in a single file of the project and wondered how I was going to deal with it. Fast forward today, I am writing thousands of lines of code. The thought that had fueled me throughout is “I WILL LEARN IT & I CAN DO IT”. Grateful for the support of my amazing colleagues and mentors.
