If you're about to step into the shoes of a patient advocate, remember that your first task is to build a strong rapport with your patient. It's all about connection—listening intently, empathizing with their situation, respecting their privacy, ensuring clarity in communication, setting boundaries, and providing unwavering support. These elements are your building blocks for a trusting relationship, which in turn makes you a more effective advocate. How do you approach building rapport with someone in a new or challenging situation?

"Great honest service with good choices. Alan Knowles has helped myself & my husband with various policies & it's always honest, detailed & with choice. So we can't ask for anymore as we trust the information we're being given. So I would thoroughly recommend Cura as their intentions are to care." https://lnkd.in/gWMvVGf #AccessToInsurance #FeefoReview

Sharing your story, and someone listening well, is what makes you feel alive, satiated, and valued. In any context, this is true. You want a lover who also listens. You want a best friend who listens. You want a parent who listens. Your life is rich with story, and you want to share it. The backstory, the buildup, and the critical arc. We are all authors in some way of our own story. I had a long conversation with a doctor today about his low patient volume. He thought it was his lack of advertising. I thought it may be his lack of listening. During the call, he explained that he often turned patients away for non-compliance, and if the patients had gotten a work-up before they entered his door, he wanted to see those results before their first visit. "Why?" I asked. "Because I just want to know what's been done before," he said. "That way, I'm better prepared." "Why don't you just let them talk? Allow them share their story. The work-up will come." Sure, you need to order the prior scans, get medical records transferred over, do repeat labs. But the moment where you meet a patient for the first time, sit down, look in their eyes, and let them explain the journey they have been on, in a way that makes them feel seen? Priceless. Listening is how you start to put money in the patient trust bank that you can pull out later when you need it. Open the doors more to your practice. Sure it's more visits and more income, but more importantly, it's more time with the people with whom you are establishing a relationship. I talk a great deal about building patient relationships. Maybe an odd thing for a health lawyer to focus on, but I know what kind of patient relationship it takes to avoid a lawsuit. And prevention is what I love best. My course on people is where I put all my knowledge, packed into one simple online course your entire staff can listen to. It's much more reasonable than hiring me as a lawyer to talk through these things, and it all comes with CME. In this course, I go over the following things: --> How to build robust patient relationships --> Dealing with Difficult Patients --> How to handle non-compliant patients --> Terminating a patient relationships --> Settling a Small Case --> How to handle online reviews --> Board complaints and how to defend yourself --> When doctors act badly --> Sexual Harassment Prevention in the office --> Employment Manual and other employment matters I've been at this game a long time. Let me help you. https://lnkd.in/g8TJh6nz
