Are you passionate about advocating for patients' rights? Here's a thought: how do you know if you're truly making a difference? It's all about feedback! To be the best advocate you can be, it's crucial to understand how your actions are perceived and what impact they have. Think about engaging directly with patients, using surveys, seeking peer reviews, practicing self-reflection, getting training feedback, and taking action on what you learn. How do you gather and use feedback in your advocacy work?

Pharmacy Mentor and Servant Leader | Loves Leadership Development | Former Debate Captain and Husband of a Debate Captain | Cheesehead
🌟 Professional Advocacy 🌟 Honored to have received the PSW Good Government award at the PSW Legislative Day in February! While I've always found politics intriguing, I never imagined I'd have the opportunity to directly influence it. Last week, I had the chance to engage with leaders at the IPA's "Wine Down" event, where we delved into the crucial role advocacy plays in our profession. And this coming week, I'm thrilled to be presenting at the UW School of Pharmacy on advocacy, completing a trifecta of advocacy discussions. Here are three key insights on advocacy: 1️⃣ Know the Basics: Utilize resources from professional societies or online platforms to identify your state and national representatives. Use their contact information to reach out. When you do, you may not always get the representative directly and may go through staff. Interacting with their staffers can be just as impactful, as they wield considerable influence. 2️⃣ Build a Relationship: Reach out to your representatives via email, letters, calls, or visits. Consistent communication, even expressing gratitude for their support on issues you align with, can significantly impact their decisions. 3️⃣ Tell a Story: Personal narratives resonate. Share why a particular issue is important to you, how it affects your patients or business, and why action is urgent. To me this is one of those time, talent or treasure situations. You should be freely providing one of these (probably whichever you have the most margin of because we can’t do it all) as a professional to continue to advance the role pharmacy plays in health care. Advocacy, particularly at a state level, is critical to our practice and our ability to care for patients. Let's continue advocating for our profession's growth and the well-being of those we serve. Together, we can make a difference! #advocacy #healthcareadvocacy #pharmacyleadership #visante
