Hey LinkedIn community,
Why did I want to create a "buzz" on Twitter/X for StackAnswer? Because I felt like it 😝. But more seriously, I had a three-step plan.
Before going further, I want to quickly share some stats about my first extension, pomodoro.addon, after 2 years of existence:
- Downloads: 1,500+
- Daily users: 300+
- Weekly downloads: 10+
These stats make me a bit proud (it's not a lot, but it's something, lol). They made me realize that:
- Many people use extensions to simplify their lives.
- About 300 people use my extension daily, which is incredible and offers a subtle opportunity for communication.
- How can I leverage these growing users?
So, I decided to run an experiment. I developed Server Explorer, an SSH client, mainly for developers and DevOps who frequent forums like Stack Overflow more often than LinkedIn.
This is where StackAnswer comes in: I had the idea last week and, seeing the stats of pomodoro.addon, I made the connection. StackAnswer is designed for Stack Overflow users, who are often developers and DevOps, like those targeted by Server Explorer.
So, I dove into development this week, and in one day, StackAnswer was ready (part 2 of the plan).
StackAnswer aims to achieve three objectives:
- Add value by making it easier to navigate topics on Stack Overflow.
- Indicate that I am available for freelance or remote missions.
- Promote Server Explorer to StackAnswer users.
To attract as many downloads as possible, I did a #buildinpublic on Twitter, setting up my account with a pinned tweet listing my achievements and my portfolio https://ledocdev.com (part 1 of the plan).
This post represents the final part of the plan: informing you to gather your feedback and advice and attract my next employer or freelance mission (part 3).
Of course, this is an experiment. Maybe I won't get the expected response (download the extension, I'm fragile, I can't handle it 🤣). But it doesn't matter, I loved working on this extension, and the build-in-public experience was great. It generated more impressions than usual.
I want to warmly thank those who interacted with my posts. Some of you tested the extension in advance and gave me their immediate feedback.
Enough talking, here are the download links:
