Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has been a popular topic of discussion in the marketing world, specifically AI tools such as ChatGPT. As Bethany Vincent puts it, "These technologies have the potential to simplify an arduous writing process, helping writers skip the torture of the blank page and fast-forward to the gratification of a published article. It’s a junk food promise, satisfaction without effort.". We've seen the numerous benefits it can bring, but what are its downfalls? Junk food can be delicious at first, but what negatives does it bring in the long run? Instead of treating AI as a tool to create the raw material, marketers should use it to improve creativity and efficiency in the following 3 ways ⬇ 1. Acceleration Quickly generate the "bad" first ideas, effectively removing the reductive concepts. If #ChatGPT can come up with it, it’s probably not a novel idea. 2. Reflection Summarize the content's key points or argument - then review for completeness. 3. Variation Explore alternative phrasings, sentence structures or even entire paragraph arrangements. This way, you can identify more engaging and impactful ways to convey a message.
