Kudos to the AAHA Tech Utilization Guidelines task force for a comprehensive look at how to provide opportunities for credentialed veterinary technicians (CrVT) in practice that benefit the individual, the team, clients patients and revenue. Well done and much needed! Focused on utilization, the role of the practice and veterinarians in being allies to these valuable team members was minimally addressed. September is Animal Pain Awareness Month! At Veterinary Specialist Services, we are dedicated to the well-being of your furry family members, and part of that commitment is raising awareness about the importance of recognising and addressing animal pain. Did you know that our pets can experience pain just like we do? However, they can't always communicate it in the same way. Let's make this month a reminder that our pets deserve a life free from pain and full of love! ❤️ If you have any questions or concerns about your pet's well-being or pain management, speak with your family vet. If your pet is not responding to initial treatment, this is where a specialty referral might be indicated. What is a Veterinary Specialist?: A veterinary specialist is a vet who has undergone further intensive training in a certain field, either at a university or private specialist hospital. This training involves publishing in veterinary journals, speaking at veterinary conferences, logging cases and then finally sitting rigorous examinations in the discipline e.g. Small Animal Surgery, Small Animal Medicine, Cardiology etc. similar to a human specialist. To be called a 'specialist', an application is made via the relevant veterinary surgeons board, and they assess your relevant credentials for this title use. Pets are referred in much the same way you may be referred by your GP to a human specialist.
