I had the privilege of attending the recent Captive conference (CICA) this week where renowned fighter pilot and keynote speaker, Dan Rooney, emphasized the essential characteristic of successful leaders - Volition. Initially, the term surprised me a bit as it's not one I commonly use, and I associated it with negative connotations related to criminal activities committed by one's own volition. However, as Dan elaborated on the concept, I realized that Volition refers to the deliberate act of making conscious choices and decisions. It's about taking ownership and making intentional decisions that propel us towards success. This realization transformed my perception of the term into something empowering and essential for achieving one's goals. Reflecting on individuals who embody Volition, figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Oprah Winfrey, and Steve Jobs immediately come to mind. Their unwavering determination to pursue their visions and make conscious choices has led them to remarkable achievements and inspired countless others. Dan's analogy of airplanes taking off resonated deeply with me - just as airplanes need thrust and momentum to soar into the sky, successful individuals require Volition to propel themselves towards their aspirations. Embracing the power of Volition means taking charge of our choices, believing in ourselves, and navigating challenges with resilience and purpose. In my personal life, I vividly recall a time when I had to summon my own sense of Volition during a period of adversity - the sudden loss of my beloved brother, who was a leader at Charter Partners. Confronted with the challenge of carrying on our family business and legacy without him, I had to dig deep and ask myself if I had the strength to continue. In that critical moment, I made the decision that I could and would move forward with determination and resolve. Overall, Dan's insights have illuminated the significance of Volition in leadership and personal growth, inspiring me to adopt a new perspective on the term and embrace it as a guiding principle in my journey towards success and fulfillment. #inspiration #captiveinsurance #leadership

Bob Lutz is referring to the business practices of General Motors, but you should apply this philosophy to how you do your job as an individual. When you offer more than what is expected of you and your position, you will be recognized for it, and rewarded accordingly. This is how the world works. Do not worry if you’re extra work will go unnoticed, it never does. This rule applies to yourself as well. Put in the effort to dress better, eat better, exercise more, listen…please listen more, read more, ask more questions. This will come back to you. #leadership #generalmotors #transportation #sales

This post talks and highlights the exceptional leadership of Mary Barra. Delving further into Mary Barra's outstanding leadership as the CEO of General Motors helped me uncover a compelling narrative of what distinguishes her as a truly accomplished leader. 🔵 Visionary leadership: Mary has a super clear vision for where GM is headed. She's steering us towards electric and self-driving cars, not just keeping up with the competition, but leading the charge in automotive innovation. 🔵 Effective communication: Mary's communication style is so direct and clear. Whether she's chatting with the team or talking with investors, she makes sure everyone knows GM's goals and what challenges we're tackling. That kind of openness builds trust and keeps us all on the same page. 🔵 Empathy and inclusivity: Mary is all about making sure everyone feels valued at GM. She's not just talking the talk; she's walking the walk! By valuing diversity, she's creating a workplace where every voice counts, making GM a place where everyone feels at home. 🔵 Decisiveness: When things get tricky, she doesn't hesitate. She steps up, makes the tough calls, and guides us through tough times with confidence. That kind of leadership keeps us moving forward, no matter what. 🔵 Adaptability: Mary knows change is part of the game. She's all about embracing new ideas and tech, keeping GM ahead of the curve in an industry that's always changing. Her willingness to adapt keeps GM nimble and ready to tackle whatever comes our way. 🔵 Integrity and accountability: Above all, Mary leads with honesty and integrity. She sets the bar high for herself and the team, making sure GM does things the right way, every step of the journey. Mary Barra's leadership isn't just inspiring, it's a roadmap for success. Her vision, communication skills, empathy, decisiveness, adaptability, integrity, and accountability are driving General Motors to new heights. Here's to Mary - a true leader who's lighting the way for us all. Our CEO, David Spisak, recently used an analogy that resonated with us - having the world's top personal trainer, but only seeing them twice a year. Without consistency and structure, progress stalls. or worse gives way to declining results. Similarly, in our industry, sporadic training and a lack of solid process equates to either inconsistent or stagnant results. David sums it up: "Without a robust process in place and commitment from leadership, nothing's going to change." A winning combo? Top-down commitment and systematic, repeatable processes. Using FedEx as an example, David highlighted the importance of process. Even a newcomer in FedEx can guarantee your package reaches Shanghai by tomorrow 10:30. The How? The power is all in the process. Let's redefine the auto industry with the power of process and leadership. Are you in? ⬇️ To hear David’s entire interview on Rebecca (Becky) Chernek's show, please click on the link in the comments below. #automotive #process #automotiveindustry

Leadership Lessons from Ben… What I've learned from Ben Shek is his resilience as a savvy operator who isn't afraid to roll up his sleeves and go to work in any area of the business. Ben's leadership is readily apparent when you witness him in action. He is most often impeccably dressed in a three-piece suit while supporting the sales team, or service advisors, or working alongside technicians, or interacting with clients. His method of imparting theoretical knowledge and immediately applying it in real-life situations has proven invaluable in helping numerous individuals swiftly overcome challenges. When I first met Ben, we were in his office and he shared his screen with me, walking through the intricacies of his business operations. At first, it was a lot of data for me to take in, but when he took me through it, I was really impressed with how well it flowed and how on top of everything he is. Truly a lasting first impression. What's just as impressive is his ability to actually do something with the data and apply that valuable knowledge into tangible results - which have been every bit as impressive. Ben would be the first to tell you that this doesn't happen without his team. He's passionate about empowering them to reach their full potential and surpass even his own abilities. On his journey, he has helped many team members realize their capabilities and become GM's themselves. His desire to ensure that his team can provide an amazing life for their family is nothing short of admirable. With all that said, it's evident that the most important part of what Shek does day in and day out, is to help his team achieve their own goals in life. Make it an awesome day! Could this be a “glass cliff” scenario? Yes. But what stood out to me is that she was promoted from COO. As a senior ops professional I have made it my mission to be able to execute a CEO’s vision and keep my hand on the pulse of all organizational happenings. I have also learned board negotiation and partnership cultivation, etc. More COOs should be given the opportunity to fill CEO slots. Hands on experience combined with senior leadership credentials is the 2024 refresh to MBAs and fraternity brother introductions. #womeninbusiness #womenleaders #glasscliff #coo
