Age is just a number. Yeah, right! Try to look for a new job in your 50s or early 60s, and as a woman in your 30s in a world full of prejudice - not that simple. And this is something that scares me a lot. Recently, I had a chance to support a few job seekers from these age groups and their experiences got me terrified. 👉🏻 One of them said, how hard it is to go through interviews without being asked about kids planning. 👉🏻 The others believed that they didn't get a chance to interview because of their age. Omg! I hope I don't need to look for a job any time soon, I thought. 🤷🏻♀️ Do you sometimes feel the same? In a world where our pension age increases year after year, we cannot afford to discriminate people of different ages. We just cannot. What is your experience? How do you feel about your age? Applied for a D&I job cos I want to know how things can change from the inside. (A reality check of sorts, if anything) Got told the retirement age is 56. Know I can give the 30 somethings a run around and then some! So much for D&I and focusing on #abilities and not anything else! I don’t know what I’ve managed to achieve as a D&I advocate if I can’t even find myself a job. I urge others like me to try and see if we’ve really made any dent at all! #HR #ageist #discrimination #ridiculous #DEI Cheers! PD: picture says Ageism is not a joke. Ageism is a REAL thing. Being an older job seeker (or worker) often means you are undervalued for a lifetime of skills and experience. It is difficult to get a younger generation of hiring managers to understand that you are capable, have good skills, and are not a threat. A few gray hairs should NOT be the signal to be unfairly terminated or discriminated against when applying for jobs - especially when you have a lot to offer in the way of knowledge and experience and you want (and need) to work. Fight Ageism wherever you can. https://lnkd.in/g8T8x7Vf
