Reflecting on the hugely successful UK Japan Tech Forum on Friday, it is clear that the tech sector is ready to support the level of ambition set by the UK and Japanese Governments with the signing of the Hiroshima Accord. With superb contributions of from Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry giving a direct view from both Governments on the priorities for the Hiroshima Accord, the relationship between the UK and Japan continues to go from strength to strength and it is tech which sits at the heart of this partnership for the future. Developing deeper ties is firmly within the strategic interests of both countries with their commitment to a free and open Indo Pacific, but the level of alignment on technology will bring both closer together and benefit innovation, investment, jobs and trade in both countries. It is clear from the level of topics we covered during the last Forum just how wide this relationship is and there will be much more to cover in future UK Japan Tech Forums. With the leadership of JEITA and techUK the Japanese and UK tech sectors have come together within the UK Japan Tech Forum to speak with one voice and provide both Governments with a real partner in securing tangible benefits through the historic agreements contained within the Hiroshima Accord, Digital Partnership, Semiconductor Partnership, Reciprocal Access Agreement and other measures which enable broad cooperation and collaboration between our two nations. Industry responded positively to the message from METI and DSIT for action, with great contributions from Sony Corporation, BAE Systems, Hitachi Vantara, Humanising Autonomy and NEC. I am pleased to be chairing the UK Japan Forum and I am excited about what we can collectively achieve together in support of a strong UK Japan partnership built on technology and innovation. https://lnkd.in/eeNn8gXJ

Interview on Asharq Business اقتصاد الشرق with Alaa Joudi discussing US markets: - Apple made the largest share buyback in history, amounting to $110 billion USD. This obviously had an effect on the Apple stock, but also on other tech stocks because it gave the tone that share buybacks are still on the menu - It's often forgotten, but stock buybacks were illegal until 1982, as a flagrant form of stock manipulation. In that year, Reagan's SEC adopted Rule 10b-18 to allow them. Ironically, this shift was promoted as a way of combating corporate raiders using leveraged buyouts for hostile takeovers - Apple is a company that is not innovating anymore. An iPhone 11 is identical to an iPhone 15, and this is reflecting on iPhone sales, which is the flagship product of the company. It seems that Apple is sitting on its glory rather than improve and innovate. Therefore, some of the $110 billion share buyback amount should have been invested into R&D to disrupt, as it used to be the case with Steve Jobs, especially with AI being the driver - Share buybacks are also a boon for the C-suite of the company since they hold stock options, so the value of their holdings are boosted when they announce share buybacks Thank you Tabarek Jouini for having me again, always a pleasure.

How do you escape competition? As information increases, and more people have access to a wider range of skills more easily, how do you differentiate in order to stand out? Likely we will start selecting for positions based on who can utilize technology the best, but also completely separate themselves from it in order to focus where needed. FOCUS will be the key element in escaping your competition. Focus on signal, and reduce noise as much as possible. High signal to noise ratio is critical. People are so distracted by noise. Easy to get ahead when you start working on your focus.

Interview on Asharq Business اقتصاد الشرق with Cyba Audi صبا عودة earlier today, discussing US equities mainly: - Despite the drop in US stock markets, we are still in extreme valuations, and the optimism yesterday is on the back on Nvidia delivering good results - A lot of headwind is still out there: higher for longer, rating agencies downgrades which increases financing costs, China's economic issues which will spillover, commercial real estate, etc - As mentioned multiple times, regional investors should look at GCC stock markets, namely Saudi Arabia and UAE's stock markets, some of which have outperformed the S&P500 with all its hype - Investing in AI is a long process because the infrastructure is still being built, and it is quite similar to the Internet back in 2000 Note: I need a serious haircut to compete to Cyba's perfect hair. Thank you Tabarek Jouini for having me again, always a pleasure.
