Data scientists: How to write good Clinical Study Protocols and Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs): Define every analysis term (e.g., variable, outcome, endpoint, time period/point) only once. Use that *exact same term* throughout the document. Don't use any synonyms. You will better set yourself up for success by eliminating unnecessary researcher degrees of freedom during analysis—and your statistician will thank you. 😊 https://lnkd.in/gub8QEPd

A group of data librarians, including myself, has just published an open letter (https://lnkd.in/g9MeUGRE) to the NIH about the 2023 Data Management and Sharing Policy in Science. In it, we call for: ◾ Increased transparency about awarded DMS Plans ◾ Increased training and resources ◾ Increased support for repositories In addition to the version published in Science, we have made a longer version of the open letter available on OSF (https://osf.io/m9r6t/). We are asking our colleagues to add their signatures to this open letter, which you can do here (https://lnkd.in/gESjkVJT). Please read through the open letter and, if you wish, fill out the survey to add your signature.

The recording from the recent webinar by Lisa Pilgram on "The Utility Costs of Anonymization" is now available, along with the slide deck. The webinar is based on an article that will appear soon in JMIR. Some of the interesting conclusions from this presentation (and paper) is that some commonly used generic utility and information loss metrics used in anonymization work are not predictive of how useful the anonymized datasets are, and that considering how the data will be eventually analyzed during anonymization can have a nontrivial impact on the value of the anonymized data.
