If you aren’t the sole writer of all the songs you register with Songtrust, you’ll need to register two types of writers to ensure we’re able to collect your share of song royalties from our network of pay sources. Even if your co-writers' shares are not being administered through your account, you'll still need to include their information as "Non-Collecting Writers," (previously referred to as "Outside Writers") when adding your song(s). Deus ex machina! No, I didn’t just curse you. DEM is a literary device used by playwrights, screenwriters, and authors—but not always to its best advantage. Learn how to use it better in my latest blog article! https://lnkd.in/gJ_CNY-Y

My packets of original songs. Each song I write ends up stapled into a tidy, little (or big, depending) packet. The stack shows the progress of every song, from just a free write or a single idea, to its final, realized form. The pages are dated, showing all of the hours and transformations of each songs as I write it. This process allows me to work on songs over days, weeks, months, or sometimes even years, depending just how crazy life or how hard the song is ;) Keep a lookout for the video I'll be sharing about my songwriting method in a couple of weeks!

Registration ends TOMORROW at midnight CT! 🚨 What will you learn in this course? 1. The process artists go through when choosing which songs to record. Understanding this is essential if you want to get an artist to cut your songs. 2. How to "get to know" an artist virtually so you can write as if you were "in their head". 3. How artists think about their show and their fans as they choose songs to record. If you aren't an artist, this information will be super helpful in your thought process as you write for artists. 4. How to figure out what an artist might need or be lacking. 5. How to figure out the 3-4 things that each artists does on every record. Unlocking this code can help you get a cut! Don't miss out on your chance to write for recording artists all while getting hands on training from hit writers! 💯 Sign up now! Course begins Thurs. Nov 2nd! https://bit.ly/3LomB5p #songwritingcourse #songwriters #songwritingtips

These 5 books changed the game for my songwriting Hint: they're not all about songwriting 1. "Songwriters On Songwriting" by Paul Zollo I especially like the second volume of this series. There's something about hearing the process directly from your favorite songwriters. 2. "The Elements of Song Craft" by Billy Seidman One of the only books I've found focusing on the music, not just the lyrics. 3. Write Songs, Right Now by Alex Forbes All about creating structure in your songwriting process. And getting over the hump of just starting. 4. Song Starters: 365 Lyric, Melody & Chord Ideas by Robin Frederick Sometimes you just need to get past the blank page. 5. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert There's nothing specifically about the craft of songwriting in this book. But it covers the most important part of writing great songs; how to unleash your creativity. In conclusion, there are so many great books out there. The key is to choose one and implement what you learn. Quantity always wins the game. What are some of your favorite songwriting books?
