Production Coordinator Nikiiyah Gest shares her art piece in honor of Juneteenth! In Nikiiyah's words: "Juneteenth is a day for our community to spend quality time together, uplift, and love one another! It’s important to me that we emphasize what it means to be free and what that mission continues to look like today. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom and continue to move in a positive direction."

Pronoun usage can be an uncomfortable topic of conversation, triggering strong reactions or immediate disengagement. I believe we can shed the usage of gender binary pronouns if we truly want to be inclusive and foster psychological safety. Using someone’s correct pronouns shows respect. It affirms the importance of belonging. It might take practice, and we might make mistakes along the way, but we can’t become better if we don’t start at all. My pronouns are she/her/hers. What are yours?
Today, we celebrate International Pronouns Day 2023. Let's honor the importance of using and respecting the pronouns that represent everyone's identity. 💙🌈

Some excellent professional comms advice from my dear friend Amber Macdonald who was featured in this fantastic profile below: “Before the writing even starts, I will talk to anybody and everybody that I need to talk to to get the details — who is the audience? What is the message? Why are we doing this speech? What is the point that needs to be made, and what are the policies we need to highlight? All that groundwork needs to be laid out before I even talk to a principal. At that point, it’s “Here are my ideas on what you should talk about” or “What are your ideas? What are the stories that you want to tell? What’s the connection that you have?”
Former chief speechwriter to First Lady Jill Biden. Writer and messaging strategist.
I had the chance to talk to Shondaland about the odd path that brought me to the First Lady's office, the joy of showing up to a five-year-old's birthday dressed as Cinderella, speechwriting, and why I remain persistently optimistic about this divided country.

Today marks the start of Black History Month, a time of reflection, inspection, and direction. As we celebrate the many accomplishments of African Americans, I wanted to share with you a song that has held a powerful place in American history for over a century. "Lift Every Voice and Sing" is more than just the Black National Anthem, it's a history lesson, a rallying cry, and a pledge of unity. This iconic hymn was written by James Weldon Johnson, a lawyer, professor, diplomat, poet, and the first leader of the NAACP, and his younger brother John Rosamond Johnson.
For those who attended an HBCU or are familiar with them, you know that this song is sung at nearly all major events. It's a song full of faith and hope, and as we continue to fight for equality and justice, it remains an ever-present refrain. As a country, we have made significant progress, but there are still systemic hurdles that need to be crossed as it relates to equity and African Americans.
Let us march on, till victory is won! Join me in listening to Kirk Franklin's rendition of the first verse of this iconic song. Let us continue to lift our voices and sing, till earth and heaven ring with the harmonies of Liberty. #BlackHistoryMonth#LiftEveryVoiceAndSing#Unity#Equality#Justicehttps://lnkd.in/eZmKPhP9
This made me smile from ear to ear!
Although this post focuses on Eurocentric education system and the lack of diversity of teachers. FACTS!
I am reflective of what I/we do have. As my son sits his last GCSE exam tomorrow, I am reflective of how important it is to celebrate 🥳 the big and small wins in our children.
Reflecting on how important it is, to see representation, that demonstrates anything is possible. for my son, he has an army of Black Excellence in his parents, Aunty,Uncles, cousins and close friends.
Putting aside the lack of diversity in teachers for a moment.
What if a child or young people wasn’t celebrated for their wins, for their achievements, for being an awesome human being. What if there wasn’t a trusted adult to speak life into a young person, to demonstrate anything is possible?
Well we know the answer (I’m making an assumption you know the answer!)
Unless you live under a rock 🪨, the rise in MH amongst children and young people, the lack of vital youth provision.
This isn’t just about funding. This is also about community.
African proverb “a person is a person because of other people”
Which means I am, because you are.
Anything and everything is possible.
At HBCU Prep School, we’re on a mission to bring empowering and authentic stories of the Black experience into homes and classrooms everywhere!
WOW! 🔥 This is a phenomenal performance brought to life by kids who have the charisma and talent of professional dancers! Shoutout to the teachers and choreographers for helping these kids showcase Black stories and history in an AMAZING way! 👏🏿
