Excited to announce a great opportunity to return to FirstStudent this summer to continue my internship in operations. Any onboarding process can be daunting for a candidate for any position, especially in the transportation sector in the state of Illinois. Through strict licensing requirements, regular employer compliance, and effective training, it is a long, drawn-out process. Some things I have noted for all onboarding of talent in any company is to embrace the "applicant experience". -Provide countless opportunities to offer help and effective communication. -Show up. Showing up is huge in anything as it creates an aspect of purpose in what one is doing. -Find a way. Nothing will ever go perfectly in an onboarding process. A crucial skill to have in operations is the ability to deviate from a plan and pivot. In talent acquisition it is important to prioritize the applicant and create an experience that will streamline everything straight to the hire date. Excited to continue to learn more and grow in the position I am in at FirstStudent as well as heading back to the Kelley School of Business to crush I-Core this fall.

Please join us in welcoming Mariana to our team! 1. Can you start by telling me a little bit about your educational background and what inspired you to pursue the career / education you have today? I graduated from Saugatuck Highschool in 2020 and am currently a student at Ferris State University. I am entering my Senior year pursuing my degree in Health Information Management and Technology. I have always wanted to work in a healthcare setting while growing up. Whether that is working with the patient or behind the scenes and making sure patient information is accurate and protected. 2. What attracted you to the HR internship at ITW and what were some things that were most exciting to you that made you apply? I enjoy the environment here at ITW, working with my colleagues makes this internship enjoyable. I look forward to gaining new skills and learning more about Human Resources. 3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years in your career? In five years, I see myself having a career in the Health Information field, either at a hospital or a physician’s office. I will have a few years of experience under my belt by then and have advanced from an entry level job. 4. What would you say is your greatest non-work accomplishment? My greatest non-work accomplishment is graduating high school and becoming a first-generation college student. Navigating my way through college has been quite the experience and to say that I’ll be graduating spring of 2025 is rewarding! 5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, swimming at the beach or a pool, skiing in the winter, playing pickleball with friends and I enjoy relaxing. #ITW #igniteyourfullpotential #ITWDrawform #intern #HumanResources

Hiring managers, I had two amazing interns over the past year I wanted to share with all of you. Xavier Morales has been interning with me for 4 years, he graduates in a couple of months from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. If I had an opening, I would snap him up. Anbankris Prakasam was recently my summer intern. He did amazing work over the summer. No matter what I challenged Xavier Morales or Anbankris Prakasam with, they completed the job, asked questions when needed, and were both self-starters. If you have any openings, I would check out these two. I am a reference for both of them.
