11/28/23: Introduction to individual giving Historically, in the United States, individual giving has been the biggest source of private giving, far outpacing foundation or corporate giving.  According to Giving USA, “American individuals, bequests, foundations, and corporations gave an estimated $449.64 billion to U.S. charities in 2019,” and, of that, individual giving “totaled an estimated $309.66 billion,” representing 69% of total giving.    A successful nonprofit organization has diversified funding streams, and individual donors play an important role. If you or your organization is new to individual giving, this webinar is for you. What is one word you would use to sum up the United Way's work? -Essential What is one thing about United Way you think people do not know but should? -That 99% of money donated stays in Lee County, and local volunteers go through a long allocations process to determine funding for all of the nonprofits supported by United Way. You can rest assured that United Way is a good steward of all money received. What would you say to someone who is considering investing in the United Way? -Your investment -- whether time or money -- will contribute toward lifechanging and necessary assistance to the lives of local children, seniors, families and individuals. Everyone deserves to have their most basic needs met, and United Way makes it easy to be a small part of that assistance and to support the real heroes: our local nonprofits. For this week's South Dakota Gives contest, they have asked us to provide them with two good reasons for participating in South Dakota's Day of Giving and two good reasons for making a gift to our organization for South Dakota's Day of Giving. Reasons for participation: 1. South Dakota's Day of Giving provides a wonderful avenue for the Furniture Mission to spread awareness of our organization to both donors and families in need of our services. 2. South Dakota's Day of Giving also promotes volunteer involvement, allowing us to make 14 furniture deliveries and serve 10 families onsite on November 28th! That is 24 families helped in just one day! Reasons to consider giving to our organization for South Dakota's Day of Giving: 1. Gifts to our organization allow us to continue offering all household necessities completely free of charge. 2.
