The Job Market: An Emotional Rollercoaster 🎢 Tomorrow marks 6 months since the #google layoff. In these unprecedented times, the job market has presented us with unprecedented challenges. As someone who has been directly affected by the unfortunate wave of layoffs, I understand the rollercoaster of emotions that candidates experience today. From the initial shock and disbelief to the feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, it's been a journey like no other. But in the face of adversity, I made a conscious decision to rise above these emotions and carve out a new path for myself. Maintaining a sense of structure in my life has played a crucial role in navigating these uncertain waters. I found solace in daily visits to my #Orangetheory gym, where pushing my physical limits mirrored my resilience to overcome obstacles. Alongside sweating it out, I immersed myself in the world of books, podcast, and articles, finding solace and inspiration within the pages and listening of countless titles. Moreover, I recognized the need to further educate myself and stay ahead of the game. In between job applications, I sought out online courses and workshops, expanding my skill sets and knowledge base to enhance my marketability. Finding out you’re getting laid off sucks. After a year filled with great work, great people, deep learning, and amazing opportunities. It’s tough not to internalize that — feeling like what could *I* have done to prevent it from happening? Getting bit by the layoff bug hurts! There’s so much that happens in those first moments of finding out the news: shock, disappointment, frustration. But I was also filled with a sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to become a better Product Manager, a career that gets me excited every single day, and one I truly love. Gratitude for the chance to work with intelligent coworkers whom I learn so much from. And gratitude for the tribe of people who supported me along my journey. I'm looking for my next challenge, let's collaborate! Although my time at Hone has come to an end due to layoffs, I'm so thankful to Kris Degaust and the rest of the Hone team for all that we accomplished together. I have a track record of taking on and solving complex challenges. I've worked cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Support, Success, Operations, Training and Content, Marketing, Security, and HR, but my sweet spot is the intersection of Product, Engineering, and customer-facing teams. I'm looking for leadership positions in Program Management and Product Operations. Here are some of the largest (and my favorite) challenges of my career: - Scalable growth post-merger: Directed cross-functional programs to help scale Dutchie after two mergers and 400% growth. - Company transformation: Orchestrated a strategic shift at Hone, transitioning emphasis from episodic product usage to sustainable SaaS recurring revenue. - SOC 2 compliance: Directed the program that achieved SOC 2 compliance at Hone, resulting in an audit report with 0 exceptions. - Process optimization: Streamlined and automated the integration of four feature request systems, four product development processes, and three go-to-market processes at Dutchie, leading to a 20% increase in the number of releases receiving GTM treatment. - Team management: Built a regression testing program at Greenbits, fostering team growth from 2 to 13 members in just 8 months and increasing the number of tests by 900%. I felt so grateful when I got a gig at Google. And even with today’s layoff, I’m digging deep to leave with the same sense of appreciation. I had an amazing (nearly) 5 years and learned oodles about tech staffing. I got to work with people much smarter than I am, and Google brought me to a new city (hello queso) that I have grown to love. I felt lucky to be a Googler every day, and I still feel lucky, even on this very hard day. I am so grateful for the recruiter who, 5 years ago, reviewed my resume and found no fancy degree, no prestigious institution and a splash of unconventional experience and gave me a chance. There is a magic in a job where you get to help people find their way to the places they believed were out of reach. I love recruitment, because we get to see what happens when you give talent an opportunity. I am not certain what I’m searching for next, but if you think my approach to talent could benefit your organization - reach out.
