Juneteenth is one of the most important days in African American history. It commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States, where more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans were freed by the Union troops in Galveston Bay, Texas. We acknowledge the progress made on racial justice in our country, but we also recognize that many issues persist and that we must work collectively to break down systemic racism. Juneteenth was adopted as a federal holiday in 2021 and is observed company-wide by Domini as a reflection of our mission to uphold racial justice and equity. Many people wonder why those who don't live in Texas are celebrating Juneteenth. However, you don't have to be a resident of Texas to appreciate the significance of Juneteenth and what it represents. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. While it originated in Texas, marking the day when the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the state were finally freed, its message and importance extend far beyond the borders of a single state. Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, equality, and the triumph of the human spirit over oppression. It is a day for all Americans to reflect on the painful history of slavery, acknowledge the ongoing struggle for racial justice, and commit to building a more equitable society. So while Juneteenth may have its roots in Texas, its relevance and impact are felt nationwide. People across the country can and should join in honoring this pivotal moment in American history and the values it represents. Celebrating Juneteenth is a way to show solidarity, educate ourselves about our shared past, and work towards a future of greater understanding and unity.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19th, is a monumental date for African American communities in the United States, marking the end of slavery back in 1865. Despite being announced in 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation took more than two years to take place, and slavery was not officially abolished in all Confederate states until June 19, 1865. We are eagerly approaching the Malcolm X Symposium coming up in November, and we are looking forward to seeing our community in attendance! The Malcolm X Symposium is a dynamic program that will invoke the legacy of Malcolm X on what will be the 60th anniversary of his Message to the Grassroots speech. This comes at a time when we are facing social and political upheaval at home and abroad. Brother Malcolm's speeches serve as a framework for members of the Black Liberation movement across the diaspora to engage, unite and discuss what's happening here and in the world around us, and our guests will be part of this. As we acknowledge and honor the diverse cultural identities that make up our communities, it is crucial that we embrace a holistic understanding of our history and on how to proceed. Brother Malcolm X plays a pivotal role in shaping our justice narrative and the fight against our oppression. "So what we have to do is what they did. They agreed to stop quarreling among themselves. Any little spat that they had, they’d settle it among themselves, go into a huddle." We must settle our differences, unite and organize. Our ancestors from the Black Liberation Movement gave us everything we needed. Brother Malcolm teaches us the way forward. #malcolmxsymposium #listentomalcolmx #zionistlogic #communityorganized #communitiesunite #revolution #land #big6 #byanymeans #yearofmalcolm #overcometheserightsandlefts #blacknationalism #palestine #meetup #wethepeople #abolition #blackbostonians #wethenorth #blackliberation #blm #blacklivesmatter #blmboston
