This week we welcomed members from Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity (Official), Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. plus many more inspiring young people and educators to the 2024 St. Jude NextGen Experience.
This experience laid the groundwork for the next generation of supporters of our lifesaving mission. Each attendee supported our mission in various ways to be able to participate, and now they will be able to share all they have learned with their schools and communities. We are excited to see what impact the next generation will make as supporters. 🌟
We each have a story of what led us to Kappa Delta and how it changed our lives. Whether you’re a newly initiated member, chapter leader, alumna or volunteer, every sister has a story to share, and together, they paint a vivid picture of the Kappa Delta experience.
So, why does telling your Kappa Delta story matter? Learn how you can tell the story of Kappa Delta sisterhood and belonging in this summer’s issue of The Angelos: https://bit.ly/45duGTW

The participation of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. members in Usher's Super Bowl halftime show performance holds significant cultural and symbolic importance. Kappa Alpha Psi is a historically Black fraternity founded in 1911 at Indiana University Bloomington, with a mission centered around achievement in every field of human endeavor. Its inclusion in such a high-profile event as the Super Bowl halftime show serves multiple purposes:
1. Visibility and Representation: The presence of Kappa Alpha Psi members alongside Usher, a global superstar, at an event watched by millions worldwide provides a platform for showcasing the fraternity's traditions, culture, and the broader historical and cultural significance of Black Greek letter organizations (BGLOs) in America. It highlights the fraternity's legacy and contributions to community service, leadership, and academic excellence.
2. Cultural Celebration: The Super Bowl halftime show is a cultural touchstone in the United States, blending sports, music, and entertainment. The performance celebrates African American culture and heritage by incorporating elements of Kappa Alpha Psi, such as their steps, chants, or symbolism, showcasing the rich traditions of Black fraternities and sororities to a broader audience.
3. Solidarity and Support: Usher's decision to include members of Kappa Alpha Psi in his performance can also be seen as an expression of solidarity and support for the African American community and its institutions. It recognizes the importance of Black fraternities and sororities in fostering community, leadership, and academic achievement among their members.
4. Empowerment and Inspiration: For young African Americans, seeing members of Kappa Alpha Psi performing in such a significant and mainstream event can be empowering and inspiring. It demonstrates the impact and relevance of BGLOs in contemporary society and encourages young people to aspire to achievement and service.
5. Networking and Collaboration: Usher's and Kappa Alpha Psi's collaboration for the Super Bowl halftime show highlights the potential for partnerships between artists and community organizations. Such collaborations can open doors for further engagements, projects, and initiatives that benefit broader communities and causes.
In summary, the inclusion of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. members in the Super Bowl halftime show with Usher serves as a powerful statement of cultural pride, representation, and the enduring significance of historically Black fraternities and sororities in the fabric of American society. #LifememberofKappaAlphaPsiFraternityInc#Achievementineveryfieldofhumanendeavor

Title: "Empowered by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.: A Journey of Encouragement and Self-Discovery"
At two pivotal moments in my life, I was blessed with individuals from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, who encouraged me to reach for greater heights.
In 1995, becoming a naval officer seemed like the realization of my dream job. Despite my initial attempts to enter active duty through ROTC, I found myself in the reserves. The opportunity to be an active duty officer excited me, and I felt like I had finally arrived. However, my perspective differed from those around me, especially my friend and fellow officer, Tangela. She saw beyond my current role and encouraged me to pursue a higher calling – either as a doctor or a lawyer. Acting on her advice, I resigned my commission and embarked on a journey that led me to law school.
Graduating in 2001, I spent six years as a law firm associate and then ran my own practice for a decade. A chance to be appointed as a judge arose in 2017, and once again, I believed I had reached my destination. However, my friend Veronica posed a crucial question: "Now that you're a judge, what are you gonna do next?" This unexpected inquiry made me realize that my potential extended beyond the bench. Inspired by Veronica's insight, I began exploring opportunities as a content creator and motivational speaker.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have people in their lives who see their full potential. If you're blessed with individuals who recognize your capabilities beyond your own perception, cherish them and embrace their insights. I was fortunate to have two women from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. who envisioned more for me than I thought possible.
Happy Founders day (a day early) to the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Do you believe in participation trophies?
While I understand the arguments that participation ribbons and trophies provide a sense of accomplishment and motivation, I feel giving a trophy simply for participating undermine the value of competition and hard work.
I mean, doesn’t a trophy merely for participating (aka minimal effort) essentially foster a sense of entitlement?
I also wonder how this participation trophy-for-everyone approach might impact us later as adults…
I’m curious – what are your thoughts on participation trophies? What is your approach when it comes to recognition and rewards for your employees or even your kids? Share below!
