Movember is here again, it's the leading charity changing the face of men's health! 🧡Men are dying too young, and we must stand together to make a change for all of the fathers, brothers, friends and partners who are facing a mental health crisis 🧡Some of the most common mental health issues in men are: Depression and low mood, Anxiety disorders, uncontrollable worrying and fears, Substance abuse, PTSD and Schizophrenia 🧡These are just a few of the mental health issues that men may face😞 The key is to ask for help as early as possible Even in 2023 there is still a stigma for men to be that masculine stereotype To "man up" and get on with it To not speak about their emotions or share their feelings To be self-reliant and not to ask for help Men are far less likely to ask for help compared to woman😞 🧡Call 111 for help or Samaritans 116 123 Check out this video! https://uk.movember.com/ #movember2023 #mensmentalhealthmatters #mensmentalhealth

Well, here it comes, in earnest. Over the next few weeks, I will send, post, and message nearly two thousand of you via Facebook, LinkedIn, Messenger, and email and ask you to donate to the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. Some of you are on several lists, so let me apologize for the repeated asks. I track and adjust when I receive a donation, but there is always overlap. I will communicate individually whenever possible but will likely cut and paste the messages. It takes about thirty seconds to send each message, so it may be a few days before you see my individual request. Of the roughly 2000 addressees, 95-140 will respond and donate. I am completely grateful for that outcome. I also want to apologize for the continuing requests year after year. It takes money to find solutions to end prostate cancer and men's suicides. Reaching out to you, asking for money, and helping to organize the event is the most effective way for me to help. Prostate Cancer Statistics • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. • 307,000 men will die from prostate cancer each year. Suicide Prevention – Men’s Mental Health • Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 20-39, with ¾ of all suicides being male. • 510,000 men die from suicide each year; that's one every minute. • This is a number that we seek to change drastically, and it can only be made possible by raising funds and awareness to help prevent men from dying too young. You have helped me raise more than $28,000 in the past. I am asking again for your support. Another reason I ride, Side by Side........ Globally, on average, we lose one man to suicide every minute of every day. That’s half a million men every year. The issue of suicide is incredibly complex. But we know this: improving overall mental health and helping men establish better social connections can reduce the risk of suicide. Simple steps to important conversations A conversation can change, maybe even save, a life. Our friends at RUOK? have developed a simple four-step guide to help you navigate a conversation with someone who might be doing it tough. Ask. Start by asking how they’re feeling. It’s worth mentioning any changes you’ve picked up on – like spending more time at the bar or they’ve gone quiet in the group chat. Listen. Give them your full attention, no distractions. Let them know you’re hearing what they’re saying and you’re not judging. Encourage action. Help them focus on simple things that might improve how they feel. Are they getting enough sleep? Exercising and eating well? Have they got others in their life that they trust to speak with? If they’ve felt low for more than two weeks, suggest that they chat to their doctor. Check in. Suggest you catch up soon – in person if you can. This helps to show that you care; plus, you’ll get a feel for whether they’re feeling any better. Starting conversations with men who are struggling may seem daunting. But getting them to open up can be easier with practice. Movember has built an online conversation simulator called Movember Conversations to help give you the confidence to talk with men who may be struggling. Take it for a spin. https://lnkd.in/g3R-uD3

Two ailments that men seldom want to talk about, but are killers - mental health issues, suicide and prostate cancer claim more lives of men under 70 than most other diseases put together. Help raise funds to deliver the services and treatments needed and to encourage men to talk about it. You can sponsor me on the link below - funds are already coming in but we can always do with more - you can donate on my link on this post. #mensmentalhealth #prostatecancer #movember #gentlemensride

November marks Movember, a month which aims to raise awareness of men’s health and well-being, including mental health. Throughout the month we’ll be sharing blogs and updates on a range of topics including the impact of physical activity on mental health, social prescribing, eating disorders and in-patient treatment. Today we share some statistics: - One in six men in the UK has a common mental health problem. - Three times as many men as women die by suicide. - Men report lower levels of life satisfaction than women, according to the government’s national wellbeing survey. - Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women: only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men. - Men are nearly three times as likely as women to become dependent on alcohol and three times as likely to report frequent drug use. - Men are more likely to be compulsorily detained (or ‘sectioned’) for treatment than women. You can find out more about Movember and how you can get involved here: https://hubs.la/Q027mp2W0 #Movember #MentalHealth

Today is the start of a journey -- today I start my 7th year fundraising as a member of Team Boys Things for the Movember Foundation. Last year, our team set out with a goal of raising over $100,000 for the first time in team history. Not only did we achieve this, we ended up raising over $139,000 last year, all of which going to fund various types of cancer research, and to bring awareness and positive change around mental health issues and suicide prevention. These are ugly issues we face in today's world. Everybody has a connection to one or the other, and unfortunately very likely both. But here at Team Boys Things, we believe that by coming together in unity, we can enact change and work to eradicate these issues that people are dealing with, at the very least we can break the stigma. Nobody should have to fight alone, nobody should ever have to feel alone. Nobody should EVER feel like they cannot ask for help. As humans, we have an innate desire to be together. I implore you all this month, check in on the men in your life, check in on all of your loved ones, you never know how much it could mean to somebody. Please, click the link below to learn more about why I support this wonderful cause, and more about our incredible Movember team and some of our stories. Together, we can make a difference. https://lnkd.in/ez_FdbWV #movember #movember2023 #cancerresearch #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #suicideawareness #suicideprevention #testicularcancer #prostatecancer

Support Our Veterans: Neurofeedback Treatment Fund Dear Supporters, We are immensely grateful for your ongoing support, which has been instrumental in equipping our future center and providing neurofeedback treatment to veterans in need. Thanks to your generosity, we have begun receiving the essential devices for our operations. However, as the demand for neurofeedback treatment surges, we find ourselves in urgent need of additional resources to continue our mission. In just the past week, six veterans have reached out to us for neurofeedback, three of whom are in critical condition. Our current funding is nearly depleted, and we urgently need additional support to cover the costs of necessary subscription services for four of these clients. Here’s What We Need: Immediate Goal: To secure $4,686 to continue treatment for the veterans currently on our waitlist. Extended Goal: $11,155 would allow us to purchase three additional neurofeedback devices, enabling us to treat up to 10 clients over the next six months. Your Impact: $4,686 will ensure that we can provide immediate treatment for our current waitlist. $11,155 will expand our capabilities, allowing us to purchase additional equipment and cover treatment for more veterans, including those in urgent need. Every donation goes directly towards purchasing new equipment and funding the subscriptions required for effective treatment. If you are able to contribute, please consider doing so now. Additionally, sharing this campaign with your network can greatly enhance our reach and ability to secure the necessary funds. Together, we can make a substantial difference in the lives of those who have served. Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission. Conversation Starter: Thought Leader: Public Speaker: How to Communicate the Long-term Benefits of Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). | Public Health | Social Impact | Toxic Stress | Neuroscience | Trauma
ACEs Matter found me because it knew I'd have the strength to stand with my story. Before moving forward, let me pose a straightforward question. Have you ever seen a movie that whispered to your soul, altering the lens through which you see the world? That’s what happened to Dr. Amity Pope, one of our amazing supporters and a survivor of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The real problem is that a significant number of people avoid discussing ACEs. Therefore, I decided to step forward and raise awareness about them. Let me simplify and condense my explanation. ACEs are traumatic events that occur in childhood, such as abuse, neglect, violence, or loss. They can harm health by increasing the risks of diseases, mental issues, substance abuse, and early death. Returning to Dr. Pope's story, she is a middle-class professional who has faced ACEs herself. She discovered a glimmer of hope through her emotional journey. She stumbled upon our event on LinkedIn at precisely the right moment, on the right day. She attended one of our ACE Awareness movie screenings on the science and impact of ACEs, including prevention and healing methods. She felt touched by the film's stories and our talk about my daughter, who faced ACEs too. Later, she shared, “The conversation about your daughter gave me hope.” Realizing she wasn't alone, she discovered a community of people who understood and cared for her. She also found a way to approach her ACEs in both her practice and personal life. Deciding to support our cause, she became a testament and testimony for the work we do. Now, she's a positive force, happier, healthier, and more confident. And we want to touch and transform more. That's why I founded ACEs Matter, a nonprofit organization. ACEs Matter is preventing ACEs through awareness, education, and support for affected individuals. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to heal and thrive, regardless of their past. And we have seen the proof. But we can't do it alone, and we need your help. By joining our community, you will be part of a movement that is making a difference in the lives of millions of people. You will also receive: Access to our exclusive newsletter, where you will get updates on our latest projects, events, and stories. Invitations to our online and offline events, where you will meet other like-minded people. Opportunities to volunteer, donate, or partner with us. Share your email address with me in the inbox, and I will send you a welcome message containing more details. It’s that simple. But it’s also powerful. Because by joining us, you are not only supporting our work but also sending a message to the world: That you care. That you believe. You are ready to make a difference. So, what are you waiting for? Send me your email address in the inbox and join us today. Together, we can create a world without ACEs. #trauma #stress #aces #acesmatter #awareness acesmatter.org
