Although they are known for their freshly brewed coffee, Starbucks didn't actually serve ready-made beverages for the first 12 years of their existence. That change only occurred after Howard Schultz toured Milan, and decided to recreate the Italian coffee experience in the US. Starbucks is the only food & beverage business listed in the current Disability Equality Index. One distinguishing feature is that they operate 10 stores in the US and Asia where staff and customers primarily communicate via sign language. Pronouns pledges serve as a simple yet powerful tool to affirm people's identities and create a more inclusive environment. They show that we are intentional about creating spaces where everyone feels comfortable being their authentic selves. 🌱 Let's make pronouns pledges a standard practice at every event. ✨ Together, we can build a more inclusive world where everyone's identity is celebrated and respected. Today's Positive Thought - Embracing Our Differences The Ask: What can we do to help others recognize the value of diversity and encourage them to celebrate differences? This Is The Thing: To embrace diversity truly, we must first understand and appreciate its dimensions. Diversity encompasses race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and cultural background. It's about recognizing that each individual brings unique experiences, skills, and perspectives that can contribute to a richer, more comprehensive understanding of the world around us. #EmbraceDiversity Celebrating our differences goes beyond mere acceptance or tolerance. It involves active appreciation and the joyous celebration of the myriad ways people differ. It means creating spaces where everyone feels seen and valued for their unique attributes and their contributions are acknowledged and celebrated. Celebrations can take many forms, from festivals and educational programs to workplace initiatives and community services that highlight and honor diversity. #CelebrateDifferences Embracing diversity and celebrating our differences is a call to action. April is Celebrate Diversity Month, and what better time to reflect on how we define diversity, and how it should be defined? Oftentimes, we see it superficially. We see it as a variety of races, sexualities, nationalities, genders, etc.—but I think it's time to go deeper! We all contain our own unique set of cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds that enrich our shared human experience, and we can use this to learn from each other and grow. I believe in the importance of seeking out others' stories, engaging in conversations (even if they're uncomfortable), and actively working to promote inclusion within our own lives and workplaces. This month, go out of your way to embrace the growth opportunities that come with expanding our understanding of diversity! #CelebrateDiversityMonth #Diversity

After the pairs follow instructions to build a bar together, a video plays of each person voicing their opinions on hot-button issues like transgender rights, climate change, and feminism. The experiment concludes with a choice: to leave or to discuss those differences over a beer. Every person we meet thinks differently. It includes things like the way we process information, how we see the world, and how we make decisions. This is called #CognitiveDiversity. In a workplace, cognitive diversity can be really beneficial. It can lead to better problem-solving, more creativity, and greater innovation.
