The State of Australian Startup Funding report by Folklore Ventures & Cut Through Venture shows a slight improvement in funding for female-led businesses. The share of total capital raised by all-female founding teams moved from 2% to 4% in 2023, and mixed-gender teams reached 18%. However, the actual dollar amount secured by female founders remains lower due to the overall decline in funding across the sector. The report highlights several factors contributing to the funding gap, including bias in investment committees, lack of large-scale deals closed by all-female teams, and systemic inequalities in securing capital. To address these disparities, the report suggests increased efforts to change the status quo through new standards, policy interventions, promoting gender equity, and data-driven decisions.
