Great news for warehouse employees as wages rise to an average of $18.99 per hour: https://bit.ly/3VxLjGp However, this means that the cost of lost productivity is even higher for warehouse management. Our recent report calculates that lost productivity caused by workers losing connectivity on their devices could be costing you up to $400,000 per year. Read more about what these connectivity issues, known as 'Dropped Sessions', are and how they could be affecting you here: https://bit.ly/4ci5BKG

Reflecting on many conversations I have had with prospects and customers, I find that most operations focus heavily on productivity improvements but often overlook the significant impact of utilization rates. Did you know that the average utilization rate for warehouse employees is around 65%? By increasing this rate to 80% or higher, companies can drive down operating expenses significantly. For context, the average burdened wage rate for warehouse workers is approximately $21.88 per hour. At 65% utilization, the cost per productive hour is $33.65. By increasing utilization to 80%, this cost drops to $27.34 per productive hour. This improvement can result in nearly $2,000 in annual savings per employee, adding up to substantial savings across an entire workforce. Let's prioritize both productivity and utilization to optimize operations and achieve greater efficiency and cost savings. Stay tuned for my next article which will point to some concrete ways to help drive up utilization rates without causing burnout. #WarehouseManagement #Productivity #Utilization #CostSavings #Efficiency

Tackling Labor Management Challenges with Task Assignment For nearly all warehouse operators, the largest ongoing expense is labor. To maximize productivity, warehouse operators need help from technology to meet this challenge. Having the ability to organize and direct tasks to warehouse workers automatically can make a significant difference in productivity, enabling warehouse operators to streamline work and optimize every labor resource and hour. Using a warehouse management system that provides task assignment functionality is key. Tasks are assigned based on priority, proximity, the type of equipment needed, as well as zone and other relevant information. Known as interleaving or multi-task interleaving, the WMS automatically assigns tasks from the queue to warehouse workers. This minimizes wasted time and travel in the warehouse while facilitating the most efficient manner of completing tasks. As task priority changes, the task management system makes the change to the queued task assignments accordingly. This removes decision-making by human workers and keeps the focus on throughput and completing the tasks in progress. The result is time and labor savings, increased workforce productivity and task efficiency. Reach out today to Datex to see how our WMS can make your workforce more efficient, productive, and effective.
