Solid-state batteries are currently experiencing a resurgence, driven primarily by the announcements of new Gigafactories in Europe and the support provided through the Green Deal Industrial Plan.   However, it's important to note that not solid-state batteries are produced equal. Some approaches only require replacing about 20% of the conventional lithium-ion battery equipment, while others use entirely new process routes and disruptive technologies.   We invite you to join us in examining the challenges of the production process and conducting a detailed analysis of the potential together. 50% of vehicles must be battery electric in 2030 to meet the EU climate targets. By then European cell prices are likely to be as low as 50 to 70 €/kWh, while simultaneously meeting societal and sustainability requirements as well.   Even though Asian cell manufacturers are outpacing us at the moment, forcing big European players such as Northvolt , ACC - Automotive Cells Company and SVOLT Energy Technology (Europe) GmbH to shift strategies, I am optimistic that more effective close-collaboration will allow for a competitive European battery cell industry - of qualitative, sustainable battery cells - eventually.   "We need competition…" not just between players in the field, but between technologies as well. German Aerospace Center, Robert Bosch and ionysis won €10,000 each after winning the R&D, Products and Markets and Start-up categories respectively in the hy-fcell awards at this year’s show. The Aerospace Center’s ‘H2-Expansion Machine’ project from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts saw scientists develop a machine generator system which converts the excess energy in fuel cell vehicles with hydrogen pressure tanks into electrical energy. By recovering energy in this way, it is possible to increase the range of the vehicles by up to 5%. This method represents an entirely new approach to improving efficiency and could be an option for approximately 400,000 fuel cell vehicles around the world by the year 2035. There is also further market potential in the hydrogen- and natural gas-based, mobile and stationary applications with combustion engines. https://lnkd.in/ebbAMB49

Vishal Joshi, team member at our subdivision for Energy and Drive Systems and research associate at the Chair of Automotive Drives at Universität der Bundeswehr München, talks about how prechamber spark plugs optimize combustion in ethanol-fueled engines.   “Positioned adjacent to the main chamber, prechamber spark plugs ensure precise ignition timing, enhancing efficiency and stability. With higher-octane rating, Ethanol promises increased power and reduced emissions. Nevertheless, its unique combustion characteristics require careful control. Prechamber spark plugs mitigate issues like knock and misfire, maximizing energy extraction and improving fuel economy.
