Today is a wonderful day! Today is World Autism Awareness Day! In 2024, it is safe to say that most of us are already familiar with Autism. The next step is to really collaborate and celebrate the inherent gifts, strengths, and perspectives that those with Autism offer our society. Instead of simply acknowledging autism, let's celebrate it as a remarkable gift that enriches our society. Join us in embracing and recognising the diversity of thought and experience, and how each person's unique way of seeing the world brings invaluable insights and contributions. April is Autism Awareness Month and it's a great opportunity to celebrate all the people living on the spectrum, as well as all the parents, caregivers, and partners of those on the spectrum. As we observe this month, let's remember to follow these simple steps: 1. Always ask if you do not understand - never judge. 2. Always be kind. 3. Make the world an accepting place. 4. Remember, it's good to be different - don't fit in. Let's all do our part to create a more inclusive society for those with autism. #Autism #ASD #Autismmonth

Recently, in preparation for supervision with a professional wanting to adapt their practice for children with SEN, I have been re-reading 'Autism and Solution-focused Practice' by Els Mattelin and Hannelore Volckaert. What draws me back to this book, is the message to A. hold back from making assumptions about what therapeutic questions clients can and can't answer, and B. that the whole breadth of Solution Focused intervention can be accessible and useful to people with autism, providing we are willing to be creative, to present questions in slightly different ways, finding a language and way of talking that fits well with the individual in front of us. #solutionfocused #autism #possibilities

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) can be like a compass for guiding children with autism through the complex landscape of emotions. 🧠 ⠀ It teaches them not just how to recognize and manage their feelings, but also how to empathize and connect with others. Through SEL, they cultivate the skills to navigate social situations with confidence, empowering them for a brighter future. ✨ ⠀ Dive deeper into the world of SEL and autism and discover its benefits and applications, here 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/e_HpD9J8 ⠀ #AutismSupport #EmotionalIntelligence #ABATherapy #Parenting #AutismAwareness #Autism

Autism advocate growing understanding and inclusion · Academic editor helping thesis candidates prepare for examination
Are you an autistic adult? Do you struggle to find resources and support aimed at autistic adults? You’re not alone. There is such a lack of genuinely helpful, neuro-affirming resources that are informed by current research (rather than by research that is now out of date and so is no longer in line with best practice). But the world is slowly shifting. More and more actually helpful resources for autistic adults are being created (often by autistic adults who are fed up with the lack of accurate knowledge and suitable support available). This list of resources compiled by Autism Awareness Australia is just one place you can find materials that might be useful for your situation. And here are some other resources that you, as an autistic adult, might find helpful. (If you’re not an autistic adult, but you know one, you might want to share my post with them.) Autism Awareness Australia’s webpage “Autism in adults” Amaze’s webpages “I am… newly diagnosed” and “I am… an Autistic person” Not An Autism Mom’s blog post “100-ish Books on Autism and Neurodiveristy” (Find the Not An Autism Mom community page on Facebook – link is in the comments.) The Neurodivergent Woman Podcast, hosted by clinical psychologist Monique Mitchelson and clinical neuropsychologist Michelle Livock (There are currently 4 seasons available; season 5 is releasing in March 2024 – I’m so excited!) Reframing Autism’s webpages “I Am Newly Diagnosed” and “I Am Autistic” Empower Autism’s webpages “Communities & Programs” and “Information, Support & Referral Services” ❤🌻 Did you find this list helpful? Great post! I would love to hear more about neurodiversity in ELT especially from those who are neurodivergent
In ELT since 1993 | In ELT publishing since 2006 | ELT Author | Editor | Project Manager | Neurodiversity advocate | Specialist in creating bestselling global ELT secondary courses
It's World Autism Acceptance Day (and Week, and Month). Although you might be seeing 'Autism Awareness Day/Week/Month' on your socials... It's time to reframe our perspective. From awareness to acceptance. From exclusion to inclusion. From talking about autistic people to talking with autistic people. So, if you read/watch one thing this week, I suggest reading/watching this: https://lnkd.in/gm8rCQ9U I'd love to know how ELT publishing companies are celebrating Autism Acceptance this April (and beyond April). Let me know in the comments. #autismacceptance #autism #redinstead (Image created by Maisie Moore she/they; Autism Advocate @mini.moores)

On World Autism Understanding Day (2 April), we celebrate the diversity of experiences and perspectives within the autism community. For Victoria University Accessibility Officer Mikki Darcy Moore, neurodiversity should be celebrated. Mikki encourages us not to shy away from conversations about autism as many Autistic individuals enjoy sharing their insights and how they perceive the world differently. 👉 Understanding starts with you... https://lnkd.in/gD4J-DBg #WAUD2024 #autism #autismUnderstanding
