Over the years, I've had the opportunity to assess and sit in on interviews for various retail roles. I've always taken pride in my ability to determine who would be a good fit for the job. One lesson I've learned is to not discount an applicant's previous role or experience. Regardless of whether they come from a fast food chain or if this is their first real job, we should allow them to speak to their experiences and what they've handled. It's important to keep an open mind and give all applicants a fair chance. You may be pleasantly surprised by the amount of knowledge they have to offer. Let's focus on what they can bring to the table and not make assumptions based on their current or previous position. #jobinterview #retailjobs #hiringtips

If You’re Hiring at The Moment… Please don’t oversell the opportunity. I’ve recently spoken to so many people who are looking to move because the jobs they’ve taken are not what was discussed at interview. It’s currently tricky to find suitable candidates. But mis-selling an opportunity in order to make it more attractive to candidates, will only get you back to square one once they leave. It’s better to take a bit longer to find someone suitable who is happy with the opportunity you’re offering. I hope this helps. #recruitment #facman

Mike McDonagh, COO at Sigmar chatted to Newstalk's Breakfast Business show with Joe Lynam about companies not using CVs in the recruitment process. Using video applications, like Molson Coors Beverage Company have said they will do for some roles, is a very easy way to differentiate yourself in the market place and opens up a more diverse pool of candidates for companies looking to hire. Is that helping people with less formal education or hindering those who might be shy and not great at selling themselves on video? Video isn't the be-all and end-all, but as part of a wider attraction strategy it has to be considered!
