Eindhoven University of Technology and abovementioned organizations will work together to solve societal problems such as the transition towards #renewable energy, and technological-behavioral challenges such as team decision making with #AI.
How can you help in this?
Well, have you ever considered doing a #PhD after your master program? Embarking on a PhD means taking a deep dive into a hot topic. It involves delving into existing literature to see how to develop untested models of a real-world phenomenon. It requires you to cooperate with many stakeholders (think about your supervisors, abovementioned companies, survey respondents, colleagues, students) to define the right research questions, conduct experiments, gather and analyze data, write down the results, and disseminate them to a wide audience (e.g., through papers, company and conference presentations, tooling, etcetera).
You will take courses to get you up to speed with the latest developments in your topic. You will meet many (inter)national colleagues, travel to conferences (some in exotic places), and you’ll have a chance to contribute to #TUEindhoven's outstanding #education. Throughout this process, you'll develop skills that will be extremely valuable for your future career, both in #academia as well as in #business. Think about analytical skills, critical thinking, argument building in writing and discussions, problem-solving, #projectmanagement, and much more. It's not just an academic endeavor; a PhD is a transformative journey and a true investment in yourself.
I currently have three #vacancies for PhD candidates. The topics include:
1. Understanding #decisionmaking processes of naval ship crews using artificial intelligence systems, aimed to develop future augmented decision-making tools that support people in complex and stressful situations.
2. The #transition of engineers from the fossil fuels sector to offshore #renewables (e.g., #windenergy at sea) and how technology (e.g., #digitaltwins) may assist them in managing these innovative assets.
3. Citizens’ #codevelopment and use of an online dashboard to monitor biodiversity live from offshore renewable energy structures (e.g., wind energy at sea) in an immersive, multisensory environment.
Supervisors will include me, Thijs Zwienenberg, Ad Kleingeld, and Ed Nijssen. Vacancies are not yet open, but we are now scouting for talent to start in Summer 2024.
