No updates for my side project this week. Office work got intense. Then procrastination set in. Btw, how do you cope with procrastination on your side project while having a full time job? Another update on my side hustle.. The landing page is finally ready. I spent last 2-3 days creating this landing page. The beauty is that with limited knowledge of Html and Css I was able to create this Professional looking SaaS webpage. Thanks to ChatGpt. Being a Backend engineer I always felt lack of Frontend development skillset as a hindrance to launching side projects. But not anymore. With advancement in LLM technologies, creating beautiful websites is just a matter of giving instructions to ChatGpt in plain English. This frees up my time to build software on my core skill i.e. Backend technologies. If you are interested, there are multiple ways to get help from ChatGpt to build Frontend so you can focus on your Backend code: - If you like a competitor website, share its URL to ChatGpt and ask it to write the code for that site - If you have a screenshot or a UI design ready, upload the file on ChatGpt and it will write the code - You can give instructions in plain English to build UI elements according to your requirements PS: For those who are new here, I am building a Side hustle alongside a full-time job. Everyone should work on side projects alongside their full-time job. Here are a few reasons why: - Enhance your skills: Your job and promotions will come and go, but continuously improving your skills will propel you forward. - Stay intellectually engaged: Work-related tasks can lack intellectual stimulation, leading smart individuals to get bored and change jobs frequently. - Potential for a new business: If your side project addresses a real-world problem, it could evolve into a successful business.

Here is my report card for the last 4 weeks: - Completed all use cases for product development. - Gained a good understanding of HTML, CSS, and Node.js. - Still using plain HTML instead of React.js due to time constraints. - ChatGPT has been incredibly helpful, outperforming Google Gemini in code support. - Realized that building a side project from scratch takes much longer than anticipated. Initially estimated 2 weeks, but now 6 weeks in and making progress. In the next few weeks, I will focus on: - Payment gateway integration, AWS deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and email integration. - Learning more about SEO and digital marketing through social media. P.S. I am developing a Stripe Invoice generator micro SaaS tool on the side while working a full-time job. I will be sharing updates on my journey regularly.

Got my first taste of JavaScript gotchas today after four weeks of working on a side project. I'm still pretty new to the JavaScript world. Here’s what happened:    I created a variable inside a try block.    By mistake, I logged the variable's value in the catch block.    The server crashed every time an exception was caught. Coming from a compiled language like Scala, these silly mistakes are easily caught during compilation. I think it might be time to consider TypeScript. From May 2024, businesses in India will not be able to sign up for a new Stripe account on their website. Can LinkedIn connections suggest me what options are available to collect Payment from US and India from India. Also is it required to register as a business for collecting small amounts for IT service usecases?

Application developers are often caught between the Product Manager (the champion of a friction-less user experience) and the App Security Manager (the hero of maximum friction for security reasons). Product Manager:    - "Let's keep the user's login session active for a month! No one likes logging in again and again."    - "Of course, users should be able to use multiple devices simultaneously without Multi-factor-authentication. It's the 21st century!" App Security Manager:    - "Latest library versions? Are you crazy? Stick to the old ones. Sure, they lack features, but at least they have less vulnerabilities."    - "Auto-logout of user session after 20 seconds of inactivity. We can't take risks."    - "MFA for every single login. We sell fruits online. So what? We provide Bank-level security."    - "Users should have the least permissions possible. Want to use a new feature? Get admin approval first." A little exaggerated, but have you experienced this at your workplace?

Thoughts?

Closing those 40 browser tabs after resolving the bug hits differently! I spent 2 hours figuring out some custom encrytion logic for an internal app authentication. Scoured through the internet, tried everything. Finally a simple prompt on ChatGpt didn't just explain the buggy code, but also write a simpler solution in Scala for me.
