As this rotation at Collins Aerospace comes to end in a few short weeks, I would like to recap all I have contributed to, learned, and took away from this experience. Working in the structures and thermal groups at the Troy, Ohio location, I was able to support many projects, varying from stress requests where I took part in strain gauge tests, axial stiffness tests, and repair tolerance allowance, to method development where I designed bolt torqueing fixtures for different programs along with finding out how to prolong strain gauge life, and to aiding in new technology development by working along side another engineer to create a thermal AI machine learning tool. During my time here I discovered the value of time management. With a lot of moving parts and each person relying on 10 others, you find yourself having to strategically communicate and coordinate tasks and find a way to create a route that is in the best interest of everyone. Learning to talk to the right people and ask the important questions play a major role in this. A technical skill that I used the most this rotation would be my computer skills. Having access to various tools is great but understanding their use is key. I had access to python software, NX, Star-Ccm+, Excel, Ansys, and much more. A lot of it was a learning experience but after a few weeks of diving in making myself figure it out, I was able to be a productive member of my team. Overall, I learned that one person can't do everything. Relying on your team members and those who have a specific set of strengths is key to allowing any operation run successfully. Understanding your own skill set and owning that with confidence not only shows your value but brings that productiveness into the teams overall success. I look forward to coming back next summer with all I have learned and advancing my skill set and the relationships here even further. #udaytoncoopintern

During my freshman year at Rowan University, I got to experience an exciting group project of building a mechanical arm. The mission of this project: Use four phases to incrementally design a robotic arm that mimics the functionality of a human arm, although simplified with respect to a number of joints and degrees of freedom, working  incrementally from the hand back to the shoulder. I spoke to a class of engineering students today at George Mason University with my colleague Brian Calvary, (and representatives from 4 other associations) about why joining a professional society now is the right move for their careers. Next year it will be 30 years since I started my University studies at BTH as Electrical Engineering Master. Today, I had the opportunity to visit again for the BTH event ”Öppet Hus” together with daughters and friends. The latest news and research in many fields were show cased; Software engineering, Mechanical engineering, Spacial planning; using the maker space, #Ericssonspace, AI, VR, lectures, information sessions, talking to engaged students, representatives and professors. The young group (hopefully soon university students) got information of the educations, the excellent collaboration between academia and companies along with the great opportunities they can unlock through university studies. Software enginering and research has been a really strong area at BTH for decades (ranked #1 in Europe #2 in world) - tremendously important engine in the eco system to have latest research available and new colleagues joining us at #ericssonkarlskrona Another area with a lot of focus in todays event is Marine Technology - booming in the region through investments in defense, environment and sustainable energy - planning to employ thousands within the coming years - super interesting!
