Having on board healthcare professionals is not an easy task and requires a lot of soft skills, combined with a great resilience. Most of the times HCPs do not work in the same rhythm with a communication professional. They are patient centric, often extremely busy, they do not respond to the same stimuli, being often tackled by several interlocutors at the same time. It is, however, a natural aspect of the collaboration with HCPs and even if sometimes communication may seem tedious, consistency, patience and coherence will always bring positive results. Navigating patient-initiated portal communication to create better experiences for patients is a national priority for health care systems. The goal of the patient-initiated portal communication project collaboration between Vizient, Inc and the AAMC is to understand the different ways that health systems are responding to patient-initiated portal communication, and the usage of e-visits, and its impact on the quintuple aim of equity, quality, patient experience, care team experience, and cost. By learning the different approaches of managing communication through the electronic patient portals, health systems can improve the provider and care team experience while enhancing access pathways for patients.
