Again, why utilize an in-state tuition concept at all? Reflecting the reality of the approach, why not use the words "every-state tuition"? #NoGimmicks https://lnkd.in/eygECNWr

Our MitoFit pilot study is underway with adults age 50 and older. We introduce participants to the concepts of heart rate zones and VO2max. Most people have never heard of these terms/concepts and are very interested in learning more. Many wonder if they can really improve their VO2max at their age. Many have engaged in over exertion in an attempt to 'make-up' for years of sedentary living, only to give up after a few weeks. Found this publication, a meta-analysis, that we'll use to advocate for Zones 1/2 training. It's from 2005, but it's spot on towards answering questions about "How hard should I train and how long will it take to see improvement?" This analysis found that exercise at 60% of max. heart rate (the intersection of zones 1&2) for 20 weeks led to significant improvements in VO2max in ALL but one study (48 out of 49 studies). Simple walking (or other endurance activity) at a pace that gets us into zone 1/2 can be done anywhere (indoors, outdoors, at home... even marching or jogging in place). Here's to walking! https://lnkd.in/e6qTMP-g
