What Does the ‘D’ in D-Day stand for? The word D-Day is globally associated the with the acts of Operation Overlord that took place on the night of the 5th-6th June With the main event on the 6th June when Allied Forces landed on mass on the beaches at Normandy. However, it was not the first time or only time that this wording ‘D-Day’ was used. It had in fact been used with reference to many previous operations not only in WW2 but also in WW1 as well. These operations however would not sustain the name D-Day and now are only referred to by their relevant operational names. So, what does the ‘D’ in in D-Day actually stand for as it was such a widely used word. Well according to those experts within history and in particular Military History it is unanimously claimed to mean one simple thing. The ‘D’ stands for Day! So, the actual wording of D-Day is Day-Day. The relevance and importance of the day was of such significance, that it was named twice and shortened to D-Day for ease. Good morning from sunny, bright, 9 degrees higher than average, Summer Bahrain. Today is Sunday 16 June 2024; the first day of Eid Al Adha and Father’s Day. Eidicum Mubarak, wishing you a very happy Eid and a very happy Father’s Day. Celebrating both Eid Al Adha and fathers today is quietly momentous for me when I think of journeys, the sacrifices made to reach the goal, how journeys spawn other journeys, some ending in dead ends, some in wilderness but with hope, some in wastelands and ditches, some in breathtaking vistas in which you feel one with the universe if only for a fleeting second, and some where you become and resonate in the harmony of all around you. We all know and feel we are living in tumultuous times and even the USG cannot be other than its nature, bringing war unto and into itself. It kills human beings to win elections, to stay in power, to avoid being caste into the withering lethal wasteland. It was a discussion hosted by the Duran that succinctly stripped bare the truth, each party is in an existential battle against the other in words and narratives for government power; but ordinary zealots seize the emotions calling for battle to save Flag & Nation from the Destruction of Other and take arms to fight, to kill, to conquer, to win, to suppress and smother dissent. Diversity is allowed full expression for gender; there’s a long smorgasbord to choose from and no one should be prevented from access to or leaving the table hungry. There is no other fully supported, encouraged and expressed diversity, in race, religion, ethnicity, color and age, as in gender. Today I read an article published 2 days ago in the New York Post how New Yorkers are buying armored vehicles and the drivers take battle survival training. The cost is between $250,000 to &1,500,000. Are these the same people who have luxurious underground bunkers built to support life for years? https://lnkd.in/dy5e-VFC

White poppies stand for three things: 🤍Remembrance of all victims of war, including both civilians and members of the armed forces. We remember people of all nationalities. We remember those killed in wars happening now, as well as in the past. We also remember those who are often excluded from the mainstream, such as refugees and victims of colonial conflicts. 🤍Challenging war and militarism, as well as any attempt to glorify or celebrate war. White poppies encourage us to question the way war is normalised and justified. They remind us of the need to resist war and its causes today. 🤍A commitment to peace and to seeking nonviolent solutions to conflict. By drawing attention to the devastating human cost of war, white poppies highlight the urgency of our ongoing struggle for peace. | Heritage Friday 2023 | You can now purchase your ticket and reserve the date for Heritage Friday 2023 - Cultural Heritage: War & Identity This year, Blue Shield Denmark’s focus is on the use of cultural heritage as a strategic and tactical tool in modern conflicts. Cultural heritage has always functioned as a political, ideological, and strategic symbol during conflicts. Today, exemplified by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it is also recognized as part of military strategies and hybrid warfare. Accordingly, state and non-state actors exploit cultural heritage to legitimize or de-legitimize claims to justice, identity, and territorial attachment and to achieve military, political, economic, and diplomatic advantages. Heritage Friday 2023 will discuss the challenges facing the protection and preservation of cultural heritage during modern conflicts whether it be conflicts targeting social justice, non-state actors in the Middle East or the war in Ukraine. #UNESCO #icom #blueshielddenmark #icomdenmark #unescoheritage #ICOMOS

Europe at the End of World War One, November 1918, by Simeon Netchev: A map illustrating the situation in Europe in mid-November 1918, in the immediate aftermath of World War I (The Great War or First World War). The armistice on November 11 (Armistice of Compiègne) marked the end of one of the deadliest conflicts in history, with an estimated toll of 20 million deaths (of those about half were civilians) and 21 million wounded. At this historical juncture, Europe confronted redrawn borders, crumbling empires, and the burgeoning wave of national aspirations that characterized the continent's post-war turbulence. #Warfare #Armistice #Brest-Litovsk #History #WHE
