I have always made my kids bring home 2 direct deposit forms from every job, one went to the account with the debit card in their wallet with 30% of their pay, tbe other went to the credit union with 70% of their pay. Why, because I was footing the bill for everything else, they should save more. Now they call me and say I have both forms Mom what do I do? ❤️ A portion of that credit union account goes to #Investments and the other goes to #EmergencyFund. They are participating with their employers 401(k) up to the max employer contribution and then diversifying into other financial vehicles like Idexed Insurance products that are protected from market volitility and IRAs. Another important thing is protecting their insurability with permanent products that premiums are the lowest they will ever be while they are young in case something happens in the future that makes them uninsurable! #LongTermCare #LivingBenefits not a #DeathBenefit A large percentage of #LTC Claims are for people under the age of 42! This approach allowed my son to write a check to go to the school he wanted to, and my daughter to have emergency funds to pay for vehicle repairs on a used vehicle. Now that they have actual bills, 60% goes to the debit card account and 40% to the credit union. I also cosigned with them on their first vehicles and set up auto-withdrawals in an amount that paid the debit off in half the time. #CreditScoreBoosting that showed how they handled a larger debt responsibly. I also put them as authorized signers on several of my credit cards that I keep balances below 30% of available credit! They graduated HS in great financial shape, almost 800. Most of their friends have never heard of this and marvel at how this happened. None of their friends can sign a lease and most have bad or no credit at all. I've been thinking a lot about impact. I had the chance to hear Emily Morton present on forthcoming work starting to measure impact of the most common interventions using ESSER funds - tutoring, extended year, master teachers, etc at last week's CALDER conference. We shouldn't be surprised that results are truly mixed. But then I also listen to the voices of principals, teachers, and students, like the ones from Johnson Middle School in District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) featured in this recent news piece, and I want to make sure that the way we measure and report impact includes all of the potential benefits. Ultimately, I'm sold on tutoring as a long-term solution in large part because of how much everyone likes it - it's a reminder, in my view, that providing kids with more opportunities to engage in the bread-and-butter of learning (more time reading, more time with an engaged adult working on math, etc) should be our focus in K-12. But we need to follow the data too - can't go off popularity vibes alone! There's going to be a lot to unpack in the coming years when it comes to impact and deciding what programs to keep when ESSER funds are gone. https://lnkd.in/eeet28iM

Wow! God is so good! We’re getting our official appraisals soon, but DASH Foundation, Inc. rough draft came back with our assets being valued over $1.3 million dollars! Now who said alumni from foster care have to go to college to be successful!? Think again! It’s a new age in society and college is one of the WORST investments you can put your time into if you’re not interested in working for a major company or government organization. And for all the Florida Department of Children and Families Independent Living agencies out there, the teens that’s 2-3 years behind in school and enrolled in EFC or Aftercare, college is an event worst investment and poor choice. I’m not saying college is not good, but for alumni’s who are years behind and only have 5 years to get it right before odds is even more against them, trade school or entrepreneurship is the solution! We got some real hustlers out there who could be big businesses if you empower them correctly. #DASHNetwork Dreamers will get it out the mud!
