Business Operations Management, Systems, SOPs & Hiring Consultant for Women-owned and non-binary business owners | Speaker, Mentor
Ever been stuck in the "I-know-what-to-do-but-just-can't-do-it" loop? Welcome to the infamous Knowing-Doing Gap club. Let's chat about it: 1. Why is this gap even a thing? Overwhelm: So many tools, so little time. Who knew choosing between Asana, Trello, and ClickUp (always the paid version) could feel like picking a favourite child? Fear of Failure: Nobody wants to trip and fall with everyone watching, right? Lack of Resources: When you're wearing all the hats, sometimes one (or five) falls off. 2. How do we jump over this gap? Prioritize: Let's be real, not everything on that to-do list is VIP status. Seek Expertise: Find your support. The ones who've been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. Commit to Action: Less thinking, more doing. Dive in, make waves, and learn as you swim. Theory is great, but practice solidifies knowledge. Start small, learn from mistakes, and iterate. One of the most effective ways to close the gap is to have a system in place. Whether it's a project management tool, or a mentorship program like our membership, having a structured approach can be a game-changer. Here’s how some dedicated time with our experts can help streamline your project management tool systems or simply help you get into the water… Guidance: Weekly office hours with industry experts to navigate challenges. Structure: Virtual planning workshops to streamline your focus. Resources: Access to a dedicated team and tools to help you implement. Ready to trade in those "I should" moments for "Look what I did!"? Let's make some magic together. GO HERE: https://lnkd.in/gMBmcHns

They're ultra-flexible and scalable. 🚀 Speed Past Delays: In-house hiring can drag you down. Dedicated teams? Lightning-fast, cost-effective, and always ready. 🔧 Tailored for You: Your project's shifts? They adapt right alongside. Picture a toolbox of skills customized to fit. But what's the deal, you ask? The gap between Product Management theory and practice. I recently came across an insightful article on Medium "Why Is Real Product Management So Different Than in Theory?". The author explores the key differences between what we learn in textbooks and the actual day-to-day experiences of product managers. - 🔎 Lack of focus: you are never working actually on one thing at a time. - 👩🔧 Lack of resources: developers, designers, data analysts... - 👨⚖️ Politics: you have to please stakeholders... - 🗓 Calendar: the struggle to get a few people in a meeting - 🗒 Priorities: there are always too many HIGH priorities, specially for commercial teams - 🚨 Emergencies: what about the production issues, bugs and others? - 🤒 You are not a machine! You are only one PM, you need to limit your WIP. https://lnkd.in/dUrxsFqD

I recently had the privilege of participating in an incredibly insightful course by Shreyas Doshi on Managing your PM Career. A particularly notable concept introduced by Shreyas was the notion that "Every Problem is a Messaging Problem." This perspective gave me a valuable lens to view challenges, and resonating deeply with my professional experience. For those interested, check the course out here: https://lnkd.in/eeBcnG_i

When you’re bringing someone into a team, it’s important you find someone who covers what you need. Do you know what gaps you're hoping a new employee will help fill? Maybe your team is lacking a certain technical skillset, but don't forget about soft skills. Some teams really need a leader, mediator, or some other intangible quality in a new employee to address their gaps. Here's how to know what you're looking for and how to make sure you find it: https://lnkd.in/grngq9p4 #agile #scrum #integral #business #tipsandtricks #agilemethodology #agility #agilecoach #agilemanagement #integralagile

I really tried hard not to pick another fight today, I really did! But... NO NO NO NO NO and NO... "2. Change the energy of the team (eng, design, research), get them pumped." ❌ Best analogy here - energy pills. This works as a spike, but this requires systemic changes across the teams to last. You cannot be pumped 5 days a week, 52 days of the year. This is unsustainable and the effects are temporary, and the come down is much worse... "4. Reach out to other teams, elevate them, get them delivering more, faster." ❌ Faster, faster, more, more... compared to who, for how long? Forever? Remember the triangle of cost/speed/quality - given cost is a driver, and now we want speed, quality will dive. "6. Help management “look good”, make them feel more impactful." 😑 I'm not sure where to start here... "9. Work harder, more repetitions = more quality, go more hardcore than others." ❌ I refer you to "faster, faster, more, more" your honour... Plus - hardcore? "11. Work longer, be the first to log in and last to log out." ❌ Working longer does now mean greater quality, and this has been LONG proven. This does however have a massive effect on wellbeing, rest, energy, mental health, relationships, family and is never a factor when redundancies hit. But you know what is a factor: Your salary "12. Ship, ship, ship - launch stuff into production. Little else matters." ❌ Is this suggesting that delivering something (as we have heard earlier, regardless of quality) is paramount above all else, including working relationships, ones own wellbeing, brand and perception in the marketplace, sustainability of working practises? --- Threats of redundancies, troubled markets and businesses, are here for a while longer, and many businesses will continue to dangle this over employees for longer still. The past few years have shown businesses how easy this is to do, and they can survive - and have zero thanks for people that work themselves into the ground, particularly for outputs that ultimately have very little impact on the bottom line. For the individual, none of this is sustainable in the long term, and the moment you tip over into burnout you are even less useful to the business than you through you were before - plus then, you know, you are in a really bad way too... Short term bandaids to stave off for another week is not the answer!

Here's what a PM can do to become harder to replace (and possibly avoid being laid off): 1. Show impact, communicate the results of what you shipped as publicly. 2. Change the energy of the team (eng, design, research), get them pumped. 3. Cut distractions, cut meetings, cut unnecessary ceremonies, get focused. 4. Reach out to other teams, elevate them, get them delivering more, faster. 5. Pickup on unsexy projects, go beyond your core expected job. 6. Help management “look good”, make them feel more impactful. 7. Kill BS work, cut what doesn’t matter. “Will this help ship?”; if not, cut it. 8. Get feedback faster, and act on it even faster. 9. Work harder, more repetitions = more quality, go more hardcore than others. 10. Work smarter - use influence and decentralize tasks, focus on 10x work. 11. Work longer, be the first to log in and last to log out. 12. Ship, ship, ship - launch stuff into production. Little else matters. Your salary, your team’s salaries, and the costs associated with building your product are the “I” (investment) in ROI (Return on Investment). If you’re not “Returning”, the company will put that “I” somewhere else. Don’t let that happen. #productmanagement

A few years ago I read a book called 7 habits of highle effective people. I am sure some of you would have read it and almost eveyrone has it on their must-read list. There was a interesting story about parenting. A conversation on what approach is the best to ensure that the kid learns and learns quickly. After trying out many strategies, parents were still not happy with the results and that's when the author was approached for consultation. His core insight was that the parents have to believe that the child will be able to catch up on things. If they were insecure about him, they would make tactical plans that would make the child even more under confident about himself. However, if the parents felt confident, they would employ steps, that inspire him to be the best he can be. This post right here, plays on a person's insecurity to sell courses. If you are to get laid off, nothing in the world will stop that. When I was laid off, a friend reminded me to not judge my abilities rather keep working on them in a passionate way and a healthy way. It helped. Inappropriate selling doesn't come wrapped in boxes to tell them apart, like a funny youtube ad claiming to make you a millionare in a month or a kyju's sales person coming to your doostep and selling dreams. It comes in linkedin posts, playing on your insecurities, claiming to make you such good professionals that no one can fire you. If you truly believed in your skill set, you would know your gaps and would take appropriate steps in that direction. Doing such courses is a hack, and hacks don't take you much further in the long run.

I highly recommend this course. It gives you tools and interesting perspectives not only on your own development, but also on supporting the growth of others. Shreyas is great, especially in the AMA sections, which give you the opportunity to get answers to difficult questions. I recommend it even if you know exactly how to run your PM career.

Another day, another article. As a product manager, I am always trying to handle competing and conflicting priorities. Many times in interviews I have been asked how I prioritize the different priorities, while I won't share my secret in this post, this article did a pretty good job summarizing different approaches that you could take. #ProductManagement #Prioritization #Conflict https://lnkd.in/gATbP2_P
