Alohas, a shoe company, came after Kaia Gerber and it’s pure gold. One of my new favorite marketing tactics is turning bad reviews into Ads. Two companies that come to mind are DEUX and Oatly. They have posters and Instagram posts all over that call out the ‘karens’ that don’t get their products. It does 2 things for them: 1. Recaptures the Audience: Ads should have one of 2 reactions: Laugh or Shock - seeing some of these comments is pure gold. 2. Continues to drive home who they are targeting and tell their brand stories in a repetitive/ corrective manner. The most recent trolling I have come across is the show company, Alohas, is getting Kaia Gerber back. Kaia was on public TV about a year ago and told the host her boots were By Far, but they were ALOHAS. Placements like that, on TV, on a model… that’s big money. Good for marketing, sales, and the whole shebang. So this wasn’t great. But: Alohas came back hard- and just launched a boot named after Kaia called “The Kendall”. This is the Ad they have blasted all over Socials. And wow, I want to work for this marketing director. Easily one of the most petty but hysterical social campaigns... ever. https://lnkd.in/dKYXfK-3

To make amends, we designed the Kaia boots–named and inspired after the one and only. The catch? We’ll only drop them if you comment on this post, Kaia. We got the boots, now the ball is in your court. Tag @kaiagerber to make things official 🫶🏼 ❤️🔥 💌 💋 P.S. No shade to @by

Founder of PhygitalTwin, empowering mass customisation technology. Turning 3D designs into skins for gaming and production ready patterns seamlessly. In real time. AI, Web3, ESG. Keynote speaker, writer, thought leader.
I discovered my love for writing on all things circling fashion tech and the change in social culture during lockdown and have since found it a very relaxing way to cut out the noise (time permitting obv) and focus on subjects that really interest one, anyone else feel the same? When Emily Carrig the brilliant founder of TrueStar and the amazing Jackaline Tang told me about their vision for True Stars, a media brand that supports creatives within the web3 space to publish content in a decentralised way I loved the idea. I was asked to be an early contributor which I jumped at and a few months later here is my first article True Stars It explores how consumers and influencers are reshaping fashion trends and industry dynamics. As I say to everyone we work with there is so much more to building a brand that the product and actually, as social media escalates so does the complexity of selling product. "The landscape of consumer behaviour has undergone a dramatic transformation. Previously, brands led by creative directors set trends months before products hit the market. Now, consumers not only create their trends but also curate content and sell to their audience." We’re all (I hope) aware of how algorithms influence our online lives and have a huge risk of only serving us content that confirms what we think without showing us anything to provide a counterbalance. Vogue Business argues that the same thing is happening in fashion. A growing sameness is being influenced by search algorithms constantly feeding us back things similar to what we’ve liked before. Case in point, you can tell who a person follows on TikTok by their own ‘personal’ style. As AI and social become more sophisticated and more ubiquitous, this impact is growing. How to break the cycle and rediscover your own uniqueness? The article recommends changing your media inspiration – watching an old movie or flipping through a magazine. I love the idea of finding fashion inspiration from different media, but I also think that simply being aware of the echo chamber of social media can help you stay somewhat ‘free’ of it. Don’t just look to your favorite, go-to influencers, try new ones and always consider broadening your search terms and, above all, always keep an open mind. https://buff.ly/47qwitW
