🌈 Happy Pride (whatever that means to you) 🌈 While many organizations and individuals focus on 2SLGBTQ+ communities in June, the work to create safer spaces where 2SLGBTQ+ people thrive and live safer, joyous lives is year-round. As Trans people of colour, we lean on rich histories of dreaming, resisting, and envisioning ways to thrive while centering joy and community. Now more than ever, it is imperative to move beyond individualistic models of care and safety to nurturing spaces that build trusting relationships and cross solidarity movements. Our freedom and liberation is interconnected; none of us are free until all of us are free. We know this work isn't easy and it can be challenging to know where to start or if what we're doing is enough. Even as we write this post, we feel this. We often remind ourselves of adrienne maree brown's emergent strategy principle: "what we practice at the small scale sets the pattern for the whole system." Whether it’s pushing for changes in your organization, showing up to rallies and actions, supporting a GoFundMe or local community group, or buying directly from 2SLGBTQ+ artists and vendors, we ask that you find ways to show up year-round for 2SLGBTQ+ people. We welcome Pride Month by diving into the inequities that 2SLGBTQ+ community face inside and outside the workplace. It's time we shift from performative gestures to meaningful action. Diversity and inclusion aren’t just checkboxes. They’re about dismantling the deep-seated biases and creating spaces that truly celebrate and uplift every hue and shade of the rainbow. Let’s extend these conversations beyond June. Diversity isn’t a once-a-year topic; it’s a continuous commitment to understanding, inclusion, and respect. Whether you’re a temporary worker or a CEO, your voice and actions contribute to a more equitable workplace and society. Allyship is especially important for amplifying the voices of those who are typically silenced because allyship is an ongoing journey, not a checklist or a final destination. Allyship is about internal practices; the choices and commitments you make every day to dismantle the systems of oppression around you. On the journey to building allyship? The rise in anti-2SLGBTQ+ hate is making it more challenging for organizations to collaborate to serve the 2SLGBTQ+ community. To learn more about queerphobic online hate, its impacts, and the efforts used to address it, ODLAN partnered with Wisdom2Action, to engage leaders of 2SLGBTQ+ organizations in a consultation process consisting of a series of focus groups. Tomorrow I get to be surrounded by a room full of incredible passion and purpose fueled entrepreneurs, people who are literally compelled to do what they do, driven by passion to make a change. 💥⚡️ It’s hard to explain what this event does for your soul if you’ve never been - apart from to say it gives you LIFE! 💪😍 Brought to us by one of my all time fave peeps on the planet 👑🐝 Dani Wallace 👑🐝 and her incredible team this is an experience like nothing else. So excited to see so many friends, partners, clients - many are all 3- and to meet new people to add to my world too. I’ll be taking to the stage tomorrow in front of 300 watchful pairs of eyes as I host a media panel to explore ‘How we can create more good news in the press and start more conversations that matter’. I am beyond proud that along with 2 journalists the awesome Alex Jay Lynam will be joining me to share their experience of being featured in national media, and what challenges they faced and overcame to do this. Sharing your story or expertise in the media requires guts, but also trust. We must work WITH journalists to help them understand our missions and find ways to communicate this in a way that also suits them. This 2 way street is something we’ll be diving into. However, the digital divide remains a significant issue, with many still lacking access to broadband internet. The month, Dallas Weekly explores the efforts underway to bridge this gap, with government and private sector solutions aiming to ensure universal access to the internet.
