Polymer Composites
Are components made of two parts: a fibre and a matrix. Fibres can be materials such as polyethylene, glass, carbon fibre, or Kevlar. At the same time, a matrix is what holds the fibres together. The matrix is usually a thermoset such as an epoxy resin, polydicyclopentadiene, or polyimide. Some of the most common are epoxy, polyacetal, PEEK, fluoropolymers, and phenolics. Epoxy resins exhibit high strength and low shrinkage during curing. They are known for their toughness and resistance to chemical and environmental damage. Most are two-part resins cured at room temperature.
Now what's interesting is to know if this will be used in tire building and if so what type of tires. Also because of the use of thermoplastic this goes well with Michelin's plan for the environment ♻️🌍🌱💚
SN: As a tire builder I wonder if this new technology can replace our current solvent and reduce the toxicity at the workplace (which is already below minimum requirement) I'm very intrigued about this🤔 and excited for Michelin as a whole. This is definitely a big "W" for Michelin, Congrats 👏🏿🥳🎉
Michelin completes today the acquisition of Flex Composite Group, creating a leader in high-tech engineered fabrics and films.
This acquisition illustrates our determination to expand beyond mobility, and positions our Group as a key player in polymer composite solutions, in line with our Michelin in Motion 2030 strategy.
We warmly welcome the FCG teams to Michelin.
Together, we will continue to innovate in high technology.
