The Saint Vincent Hospital’s Structural Heart team recently performed its 700th transcatheter aortic valve replacement device (TAVR) implantation at the hospital. This latest milestone demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to improving cardiac care for heart valve disease patients. Read more: https://bit.ly/44G6JVS

💡Did you know catheter ablation is a non-surgical technique using a thin catheter to treat arrhythmias? NHCS performed the first radiofrequency catheter ablation in 1991 for a patient with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a congenital heart defect, marking a milestone in cardiac care. Today, over 400 ablation procedures are performed at NHCS yearly, helping patients improve symptoms and quality of life. #NHCSdidyouknow #CatheterAblation #Arrhythmias

King Tube Versus iGel: Which Supraglottic Airway Will Reign Supreme? The use of supraglottic airway devices during the resuscitation of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients is increasing. The most commonly used supraglottic airway devices in the U.S. are the King Laryngeal Tube and the iGel. Can the design differences impact patient outcomes? Join us for the next PCRF Journal Club as we review a study from the CARES surveillance group that compares the neurologic outcomes of OHCA patients managed with the King Laryngeal Tube to those of patients managed with the iGel: https://ow.ly/aP7J50PSHIE

Nine minutes!! In a hospital setting, the goal is to minimize the time from cardiac arrest recognition to the first defibrillation shock for patients in ventricular fibrillation (VF) or pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT). The importance of a rapid response - ideally aiming for the first shock to be administered within a few minutes of cardiac arrest. By analyzing every step, from the moment of recognition to the delivery of the first shock, hospitals can identify where delays occur and work on strategies to overcome these. Remember, every second counts and improvements in this area can lead to significantly better outcomes for patients experiencing cardiac events. #Rescuern #respiratorycare #collaborativelearning

Cardiac arrhythmias are a common cause of sudden death. ECG monitoring should be established as soon as possible for all patients who collapse suddenly or have symptoms of coronary ischemia or infarction. To avoid delay, apply adhesive electrodes with a conventional or automated external defibrillator (AED) or use the “quick-look” paddles feature on conventional defibrillators.

Why is cardiopulmonary rehabilitation important? The American Heart Association calls it "One of the best things you can do for yourself" following a cardiac event like a heart attack. At HCH, you can find cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs that are medically supervised and include extensive positive patient outcomes. Our #tuesdaytip is to learn more about these life-changing opportunities! #cardiopulmonaryrehabilitation #hearthealthmonth https://loom.ly/iE3VbBo

The Berlin Heart is a ventricular assist device (VAD) designed to provide mechanical support for critically ill patients suffering from severe heart failure. While it is not considered a permanent solution to heart failure, it does act as a bridge to either heart transplant or recovery. Since Berlin Hearts come in such varying sizes, they can be used in people of all ages, including children, infants, and even newborns. The Berlin Heart uses pneumatic pressure to circulate blood. The pump can be used for the right or left ventricles alone, or as a bilateral VAD. What device type is used will depend on the needs of the individual patients. In order to be placed on a Berlin Heart, the patient will have cannulas (tubes) placed in their heart and main artery (either the aorta, pulmonary artery, or both, depending on the type of VAD being placed). While this is happening, the patient will be placed on bypass, and then transitioned to the Berlin Heart. The operation typically takes between 4 to 8 hours but may take longer. Since the Berlin Heart is so compact and is controlled remotely, patients are not confined to their beds when on the Berlin Heart and stable. Patients are able to move around and engage in some regular activities. For more information on the Berlin Heart and how they work, check out this video: https://lnkd.in/dEFNd6c — www.williamswardrobe.org

2moI did not have a replacement, my heart was fixed with cow tissue. This happened at the end of January of this year at Presbyterian of Dallas. I had a great surgeon and I am doing great.
