“I’ve always enjoyed the technical aspects of art, and that naturally turned over into architecture. From there, it turned into drafting and design details. I found that's a career path that I could look into, and I went for it.” Find out how Tommy has grown at Tessenderlo Kerley and loves his current role as Design Group Manager: https://lnkd.in/gaRjJXFW Tommy's team is hiring! There's an old story that goes back to the 1600's that I want to share. It's the story of 3 bricklayers. Each one is asked what they are doing. The first Bricklayer grumbles and says..."I am a Bricklayer. I'm laying bricks to feed my family". The second Bricklayer answers... "I am a Bricklayer, I'm building a wall." The third Bricklayer responds, proudly, "I am a Cathedral builder. I am building a great Cathedral to the Almighty!" When I first heard this story, it was in the context of the Corporate employee/employer relationship. When your team members understand the Big Picture of your organization they take pride in their work. They can see their individual contribution to the Mission. It's more than a job, it's a shared purpose. To me, this story has always been about PURPOSE.... Between doing a job and having a calling. Sometimes, we get stuck "in the weeds" of our business, or, let's face it - our life! Especially during the seasons where we feel as if we are "wearing all the hats" and "doing all the things". It can feel like a grind. And I don't know about you, but nothing drives a wedge between me and my calling more than "the grind." So, I'd like to ask you a question, and I'd love if you could answer in comments... If someone asked you today "what are you doing"... what would your answer be? #3bricklayers #joydoespay #thevisionarymasterclass #businessgrowth #purposedriven

It is a true privilege to have the opportunity to work closely with Fletcher Living's sustainability and design team on the ground-breaking ‘LowCO’ pilot project at Waiata Shores that is paving the way for a more sustainable future. We're proud to contribute our expertise in low carbon concrete and paving solutions. This partnership is setting the stage for low carbon, low energy, low water homes that showcase the power of whole of lifecycle thinking and innovative low carbon products. One highlight of our involvement: crafting low carbon concrete for the slab on the terraces, featuring an impressive EC34* rated low carbon concrete where starting with EcoSure, NZ's lowest carbon GP cement in the concrete mix, the carbon was further reduced by the use of "fly-ash" as a supplementary binding material. This slab emitted 1.3t tonnes less CO2 than a standard mix design and required around 2.3t tonnes less cement. Our commitment extends beyond structures, as our permeable paving graces the landscaping, harmonizing sustainability and functionality. Together, we're steering towards a future where sustainability and modern living coexist harmoniously. #Sustainability #GreenConstruction #Firth #BuildingaBetterFuture #LowCarbonLiving #InnovationInDesign #FletcherLiving #LowCO *From the ISC 2020 baseline
We're back at Waiata Shores and today we're talking to the design team behind LowCO. Tim Ross from Architype and our very own Daniel Forwood. Watch the full video in the link below: https://lnkd.in/gwSsQh4S

The repetitive nature of takeoffs can lead to two things: hating your life and mistakes. If you are going room by room and applying the same finishes over and over, it's all too easy to zone out and miss something. If you are using Measure Square, you can avoid this with the Room Profiles feature. It is especially helpful with rooms that have extra add-ons: corner counts, trim pieces, etc. Just choose one of the rooms as your model and then create a Room Profile. All the finishes and accessories will be saved in this profile, so you can just drag and drop it on any other matching rooms on the project. You may have to go back in and do some tweaking, but you won't be starting from scratch at each room.
Room Profiles can be a great way to save some time on your takeoffs, and that's what I cover this week for Takeoff Tuesday.

“We’re here to celebrate the grand reopening of a warehouse. But it’s not just any warehouse. It’s the magnificent addition to a gem of a company.” So began Covington Mayor Joe Meyer’s remarks today as he indeed helped cut the ribbon on a “warehouse.” Called the “Urban Garage,” the building newly renovated by developer Al Haehnle will be used by video production company The PPS Group, and in particular, its growing film and video archival division, which is called Scene Savers. The new space, located at 429 Greenup St., sits just to the rear of The PPS Group’s home at 424 Scott Blvd. The company moved to Covington in 2008 and has since doubled in size. “We are a 42-year-old company that continues to innovate and evolve as technology continues to change at a rapid pace,” the company said in a statement. “We provide world-class production and archival services.’ Meyer detailed some of the company’s projects, including digitization of video related to the investigation into the assassination of former President Kennedy. He also praised Haehnle as “inventive, creative, and high-energy” and said his renovation of historic buildings in the city had contributed to its resurgence. *** PHOTO CAPTION: Covington Mayor Joe Meyer, center, helps cut the ribbon with Paul Calardo, sales manager of Scene Savers, left, and Jim Bird, president of The PPS Group, at right.
