Textron Corporate’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group FUSION recently hosted a happy hour fundraiser at a local Providence, RI brewery pop-up. Employees gathered together to celebrate the start of Pride Month and raised $600 for Youth Pride Inc.! 🏳️🌈

What is “Rainbow Washing?” Rainbow washing, defined as using rainbow colors to show support for LGBTQ equality without meaningful advocacy, is a sneaky marketing tactic. Companies often splash rainbows and LGBTQ imagery in June but forget about it later. While it's wonderful to see rainbows everywhere, it's important to remember that true allyship goes beyond adding a rainbow to your product or website. To my fellow social media managers: Pride month has started, and I want to encourage you all to approach this time with authenticity and purpose, not just profit. Far too often, brands treat Pride as a mere marketing opportunity, slapping rainbows on our logos and pushing product sales without truly supporting the LGBTQ+ community. This is not only hurtful to the queer community but can actively damage trust and credibility. Instead, I challenge us to use our platforms to amplify LGBTQ+ voices, highlight essential causes, and show up as true allies - not just during June but year-round. Donate portions of profits to LGBTQ+ organisations, collaborate with queer creators, and use your reach to educate and inspire. Pride is about celebrating hard-won rights and uplifting marginalised identities.
