Commissioner Roger Goodell said more changes could be on the way to the NFL schedule. His dream scenario would consist of two preseason games and 18 regular season games. The lengthened regular season would move the playoffs back. “The (Super Bowl) ends up on Presidents’ Day weekend, so it’s Sunday night, and then you have Monday night off.”

🏈 It is time for the NFL Draft, a thrilling spectacle that generates over $200 million! 🔗Check out the newest deep dive: https://lnkd.in/dhbDqRWV The NFL has mastered the art of year-round entertainment, captivating fans even during its long offseason, with the NFL Draft as its highlight. It showcases Football's enduring appeal and revenue potential, even when no games are played: ⚡ 300'000+ fans and $200m in economic impact expected in Detroit across 3 days ⚡ 11m+ viewers expected to tune in for the first round of the draft, on par with NBA finals and Masters ratings ⚡ 54m+ unduplicated viewers will tune in from April 25-27 Scouting Combine, Free Agency, Draft, Training Camp, Pre-Season, Season Opener; at every point in the year the NFL gives its fans something to anticipate and talk about. Other sports properties should take note of how the NFL manages to consistently stay relevant and monetize that attention. With the increased economic value the NFL Draft generates for a host city, I would not be shocked if the NFL found a way to leverage that power and open up additional revenue streams.💰 For more details, check out the full piece and enjoy the read! (incl. how the draft process is technically illegal under U.S. antitrust laws)😄 Thanks for your support and stay tuned for more 🙌 #nfl #nfldraft #football #sportbusiness #sport #collegefootball

I’ve been playing out all sorts of scenarios for the Giants this offseason. I’m going to share one I think makes sense. If McKinney/Saquon sign elsewhere, the best option for them is complete rebuild. Dont sign any big FA’s that count against compensatory pick formula… Giants have SO many holes everywhere… They can’t fill them all in one offseason. McKinney & Saquon leaving creates more holes. If they dont sign FA’s that count against comp formula, it will allow the Giants to increase their draft capital for the 2025 NFL Draft and they need every pick they can get. If I’m going to spend big $$, I offer a 2nd Rd pick to the Panthers for 25 yr old franchised EDGE Brian Burns & sign him to a big deal. He’s someone you can build around with Dexter, Kayvon, Okereke & Banks. Thats a foundation for the Giants defense. He also wouldnt count towards comp pick formula.

With the same team and a promoted linebacker coach as new HC, the Raiders are likely to finish the season as a much more physical team relying on a invigorated running game to complement a blitzing defense. Can this lead to a false sense of improvement if the team happens to achieve a few otherwise unexpected wins? The short answer is yes, but make no mistake, in order to win next year and take the team deep into the playoffs, the Raiders still need a strong quarterback and an improved offensive line, plus an upgrade at interior defensive line, a thorough improvement at linebacker, and a total makeover of the secondary. The interim Head Coach will not be the HC next year, nor will the interim General Manager be the permanent GM, nor will the 25 year old, 4th round, rookie quarterback be the starter next year. The Raiders are in a market now that will not tolerate mediocrity, and the results of such an attitude will be felt not just at the turnstiles, but more importantly at the court of public opinion, which already is extremely weak when compared to the instant success of the Vegas Golden Knights and the Las Vegas Aces. Time will tell, but the Raiders need to make major changes and spend deeply to improve for next year or be further left behind in this new sports town!

Opinion: Picture this… “winner writes history” sports show where “right wing vs left wing teams” compete in short form sport competitions to win 5 minutes of documentary airtime that discusses a recent American event (eg university protests, Covid lockdowns etc.) Think 3 minutes sports competition for every 5 minutes of “polarized” documentary airtime. Ideally the contestants are charismatic and likable to viewers from both political sides (and their personalities and backgrounds will be half the fun)… . and it’s nice to imagine the show highlighting the importance of debate amongst young people. And let’s not forget how cool the team merch will be… sold exclusively on Amazon marketplace of course. Disclosure: I mentioned a similar international show to Albert Cheng via comment a week or so ago, but as I immersed myself into the “are right, a lot” leadership principle in a fictitious“one pizza” meeting with Mike Hopkins and Andy - the conclusion was domestic is better. (Hope it’s not offensive to include executives in the creative process). Think big! Are right a lot! Invent and simplify! Giddy up!

If you connect the dots of Kliff Kingsbury backing out of the Raider’s OC job and now being the leading candidate for the Washington OC job https://lnkd.in/gHBWgvCY plus Caleb Williams being from D.C. and saying he doesn’t want to play for the Bears plus Caleb Williams Quarterback guru at USC was Kliff Kingsbury and he likes him https://lnkd.in/gQKsfmTs EQUALS the #chicagobears may trade down one spot to #washington so Washington can land him. I say Good Riddance for 4 reasons: 1. Caleb Williams is barely 6’ (he’s NOT 6’1” as listed) and he’s not that muscular (versus Patrick Mahomes is a solid 6’2” and 230 all muscle and a great athlete). 2. Caleb Williams avoided playing at USC during his bowl game. 3. The two Heisman winners and one runner up under head coach Lincoln Riley have been marginal in the NFL. I think they are more a product of his system. 4. He’s a punk: demanding where he goes in the NFL draft! Instead, I would: 1. Draft Marvin Harrison Jr. with the #2 pick. 3. Get a top LT with the #9 pick. 3. If you can get the #8 pick from Atlanta for Justin Fields, I’d make that trade and draft Bo Nix who: a) led the nation with a 77.2% completion percentage at Oregon (a great program) b) is a solid 6’2” and 230 all muscle and c) “tore up” the Senior Bowl, which confirmed his stats! 4. Then use the extra draft capital you got from Washington to fill other holes on the roster such as free safety (and let Eddie Jackson go saving a lot of cap space) and Edge Rusher! -Scott
